It just seems like an ego trip and why are they all older characters? Is he planning on making it a teen show like Kirkwood did?

I couldn't agree more with the Buster, Lee, Kyle, Claudette (She is camp and enjoyable but I just can't picture her as a long term character. She should have been killed off for real) and Masood axings. I'm not so pleased with the Les, Pam, Ronnie and Roxy axings however. I feel they still offer quite a bit. I hope they have some decent exit storylines lined up for them!

How on Earth Tina, Donna, Shaqil, Sylvie and Johnny have survived the chop though is beyond me. None of them offer anything. I mean just what is the purpose of Sylvie's character?

Sean O'Connor needs to survive if the BBC want the show to see another decade.

It was Nitin's choice to leave.

Read the post on DS and it seems brutal. I'm fine for getting rid of deadwood but this seems too much - like an ego coming in and sweeping away the last boss's work.

Actually the two characters I do agree about being axed is Ronnie and Roxy. I think they have run their course now. For years the characters have been going round in circles. They bore me now.

I tend to agree with you and IMO it's starting to look a bit petty.

Pam and Les I'm gutted about, I think they're great and at times their quiet acting has knocked some of the others on the show out of the park. Les's expressions lately have conveyed so much without words. Big mistake getting rid of these. It's not like they don't have any links on the square - they're a surrogate parents/grandparents to Billy, Honey and their kids and I was going to say Claudette but she's going too!

Kyle. This might be controversial but it feels like the actor has been used for an 'issue' storyline and is now just being dropped again, I might not be explaining myself properly but I feel a bit uncomfortable about it. But besides that, OK the character doesn't light up the screen but he's Stacey's relative and she's quite short of them nowadays, there was nothing wrong with having him as a sort of 'B' list character. Plus there's other other two half-sisters out there.

Claudette. I like the actress, she has some presence but when they had her partly responsible for Fatboy's death the writing was on the wall for her. Plus they could never quite make up their mind what she was like! One minute she was 'Ma Baker' and the next (usually with the Cokers) she was kind, understanding and nice. Bad characterisation has been the death knoll of Claudette.

Ronnie and Roxy. Agree. Ronnie has gone too far and Roxy never seems to evolve.

Lee. Just when he's about to become a father and bricking it? Then there's the depression? Seems an odd decision to me. Not breaking my heart but am scratching my head.

Buster. An 'everyman' who was great with Shirley at first but who they've ruined a bit with this affair with Kathy. I still quite like him though. There's not really many men of his age on the square is there?

I agree with all of them. They're rubbish characters with the exception of Ronnie and Roxie, who definitely do need a break though before they deteriorate further.

What really annoys me is Kyle - what was the point? You can't being in a trans gender character purely for the fact they're trans and that be their storyline. I know there's some stuff coming up now, but I feel he's been a gimmick, which is quite insulting.

Kyle had so much potential as a character but it got squandered.

I was hoping they'd do something with him, so I'm a bit disappointed he got the axe.

I agree, he brings a great energy to EastEnders. If he was better used he could easily become a major character.

Totally agree. Not too fussed about the others but the Cokers and Kyle is a terrible waste.

Well there's no hope of Boy Meets Girl being renewed for a 3rd season - all he hype around Rebecca Root and Denise Welch and the 2nd series had 600,000 viewers for the premiere this year, later slumping to between 300,000-400,000 viewers at 10pm, outrated by Big Brother, and also suffering the ignominy of being outrated by Julie Kavner, Angela Lansbury, Ray Meagher and Stefan Dennis, who don't get
that gushing.

Has SOC axed Riley to shut the door on Denise grovelling to him for her role back if BMG dies? If she couldn't outrate Miss Kavner despite all the gushing she and Matthew Healy have had (and BMG had a transgender actress as it's lead) clearly SOC knows it - hence the axing of Riley.

Not one syllable of that made the slightest bit of sense.

Denise Welch played Alison Slater in EastEnders. Given that she had a lead role in Boy Meets Girl, a sitcom starring a transgender actress which flopped so badly on it's 2nd series as I mentioned- SOC no doubt sees her as toxic after that. She's playing the mother of a transgender character and her sitcom with the same premise could not beat Neighbours!

Hence SOC axing Riley Carter Millington so DW has no chance of returning to EE. EE would have been her fallback had BMG died.

I don't strongly disagree with any of the axings, but would probably have kept Pam and Les as background/supportive characters.

With regard to Kyle, I think the big problem is that the actor just isn't very good (in my opinion, of course). He always has that confused/despairing expression on his face. The actor might be better in a different role, but this casting hasn't worked out as far as I'm concerned.

Denise Welch is a brilliant actress. She has never had any trouble finding work and she never will.
