Is SOC or DTC to blame?
DTC introduced Pam, Les, Kyle and Claudette. But he didn't really do much with them and they had so much more to give.
Then SOC arrives and instead of trying to develop them further he just swings his axe which is kind of infuriating considering the characters never had a chance in the first place. So who do you blame for their axings? DTC for not doing more with them or SOC for not bothering his backside to develop them? |

Not fussed with the axings, SOC not interested in these characters neither was their creator. DTC was the person who introduced them should have given them sls but alas he didn't and SOC is probably not a fan so he got rid.

DTC all the way.
He started so well but gradually become more arrogant. So many wasted opportunities for so many characters I think Sean O'Connor is going to be great for the show. |

DTC didn't bother with any of his new characters. He'd already disposed of Charlie and Aleks once they'd served their purpose. He put absolutely no effort into the returning Steven and Belinda. He made an absolute mess of Gavin. He never developed Vincent or Donna and let's not get started on Elaine.😲

DTC introduced lots of characters but most were never developed meaning SOC just simply couldn't care less about them. Kyle was bland so SOC got rid. So far the signs seem good and I'm willing to put up with the next week at least being a bit boring if it means SOC drags the show back on to its feet

Plus Kathy's comeback has been very poor. |

DTC was too focused on the Carters, Mitchells and Beales to care about the rest. Out of all the characters he introduced it is obvious his main priority and love were the Carters.
He also ruined the Beales for me and the Mitchell liver/Ben and the gang was awful. He hyped up Gavin, rewrote history for this awful character. |

Vincent has been a complete flop. Elaine- never want to see her again. |

I dislike many characters on many shows. But Elaine is something else. Nosy, hypocritical and downright nasty.

I really think DTC started to make so many mistakes, him and that dreadful Alex Lamb who needs to get the boot too.
Mistakes- Kathy's comeback has flopped. Recasting Johnny has failed No character development for Donna Vincent & Gavin flopped Lauren's return has been weak Ruining Jane Paul being given nothing to do - consequently killing him off Bringing back bland boring Sonia Bringing in the dreadful Sylvie, Tina & Lee Poor storylines for Denise Throwing Cora out on the Streets. Making Dean a rapist Never developing Roxy beyond the next Man she will shag Casting a Transgender character and never developing his character Making Claudette a killer. Wasting Masood Giving Jay a storyline that has made him feel even more of an outsider. So many mistakes DTC after such a promising start. The best casting by far was Timothy West as Stan and he is missed. |

The trouble was with the Carters that the only one of the kids he made an effort with was the one built in his own likeness....Johnny. Once the actor quit he was left with the two kids that he had no plans for which really messed up his plans.

Yes, also once Johnny came out to his family he was tossed aside for more drama between Mick/Linda. That's why I don't know why he recasted Johnny (I'm still not impressed with the actor but maybe SOC has plans). DTC just wanted a family but he only cared about Mick/Linda the rest were just there because of faaaamily.

Both I think. DTC for not investing in the characters more and SOC for just getting rid of loads of characters when he could actually do something with them. I don't have high hopes for the new producer. I've got a feeling he might turn it into a teen show.

How was Kathy a flop? She's back where she belongs and should never have been killed in the first place. Her return story was horrible but having her back in the show was worth it.

It's just a lot of focus is on the young cast at the moment. Shakil's birthday episode was just awful!

That was DTC work wasn't it?
Shakill's birthday didn't feel like something from DTC's era. |

I think DTC started out great and lost his way. When Elaine first arrived, people were singing her praises. But when she returned for the 3-month stint, she just grated on everyone and became even more of a caricature. He brought every character in with one story in mind for them - Johnny's looked to be a romance with Ben causing a Carter/Mitchell war, the Cokers had Christine etc. But most of his characters' storylines were simply them existing, like Donna or Kyle. They had no personality. Especially moving into 2015, he spent too long focusing on the past. I get that it was the anniversary year, but we care about what happened and the future, a few throwbacks is nice - but not a convoluted storyline where everything took place before the show started. Characters with few connections weren't made to feel part of the show but as a separate storyline. There was no sense of community. Kate Oates is a flawed EP but one of things I love that she does is bringing together many seemingly unrelated storylines, intertwining them.
