Is SOC or DTC to blame?

DTC without a doubt. Because of him, the show is almost at an all time low.

Nothing is happen and over half of the cast are 'filler' characters.

Save for the odd week here and there, Shirley's been underused for a good year or more.

So have a lot of other characters.

I think the main problem with all of the new characters introduced under DTC (even Mick and Linda who are by far the best of the bunch) is that they have all been bought in with one or two storylines in mind for them and no hooks for anymore.

There's nothing wrong with introducting characters with a story already set for them, even one that's contained within the family group, as long as they have fully rounded personalities - rather than being hung on one thing like Kyle is transgender, Paul is gay and was bought up by his grandparents - and interact with a variety of existing characters as this can spark new storylines "organically".

For example, the original Slater clan, they arrived with fully rounded personalities and quickly established the following story hooks within the famiy alone:
- Big Mo and Pat's feud/backstory
- the family dealing with Viv's death
- normal sibling problems from living in such close quarters - there was a fight about who was sharing with who
- the slow reveal of exactly what was going on with Little Mo and Trevor
- Kat and Zoe's story
- Kat's tarty behaviour
- Lynne and Gary's relationship woes, including the bit with Kat

He can get rid of any character he wants he's spoilt for choice.

The show needs a major overhaul that's the only way Eastenders is going recover, but it might be to late to save it.

DTC is to blame definitely. There's a transgender story to tell but it certainly wasn't Kyles. Sean seems to be bringing back the Eastenders rule book - do something bad = get punished which is a great thing in my eyes. Plus all this space will make way for a new family and a couple of other new characters I reckon who can really breathe some life into the show.

DTC.

This man has destroyed the show. I think its because he was a fan.

He played his own fanfic on the show. He messed up history, he revealed long term secrets in the most dull boring way. He created Elaine. He killed Lucy and for what exactly? Killer Bob and Jane?

Kirkwood tried to turn the show into Hollyoaks
Newman tried to turn in the show into BoreEnders
DTC tried to turn the show into DTCEnders.

I can't even face watching the show anymore. I have watched since day 1 and I even have a bad taste in my mouth now when I look back and think of Den with Gavin and Vincent's Dad

SOC need's to ditch more than the easy safe ones that DTC created he needs a late 90's/early 00's cast clearout.

When you look back at it I think DTC may have caused more long term damage to EastEnders than any other EP. I mean why so much rewriting of history? the Sharon/Den/Gavin stuff, the Kat secret son stuff. I think messing with the continuity of the show is more dangerous than anything else yet DTC did just that.

He was so shortsighted too. Killing Lucy and even Nick dare I say it is unforgivable.

Maybe DTC proves that you shouldn't really put a fanboy in charge of the show.

I think the axings so far will clear up the dead wood in the show. I'm gutted about Ronnie and Roxy but they have had heaps of drama throughout their years on the show.

I would love Sean to bring back some much loved characters and rebuild the Slaters.

Bring back Little Mo and give Big Mo more screen time.

No No to both Mo's.

Kill Big Mo off and Little Mo was so boring

They need to develop Belinda who is fabulous

DTC's short-termism is to blame. It ran through everything he did: bringing back Kathy, introducing new characters only to give them nothing to do, killing off Lucy without thinking of the consequences, the list goes on. His one big innovation, the Carter family, started off very well but even they were completely repetitive and boring within just 12 months.

It feels like he only ever planned up to Feb 2015 and everything since then has been made up as they go along.

Yep. Most of his own characters were poor and as a result the show has had to fall back on the Beales and Mitchells to carry it. Both families have become tainted by their association with the Bobby cover-up and, in Jane's case at least, completely irredeemable. Lack of long-term planning strikes again.

This.

DTC started off well but has left the show in a real state. Half of the cast are completely superfluous. SOC has got his work cut out.

I don't think it is really as hard to improve this show as some people are making out. All they need to do is have an overhaul in the writing room and hire better good storyliners. Characters viewers can identify with would go a long way as well. Ideally they should scrap the Friday episode but that won't happen.

I beg to differ. She feautured heavily over most of the summer and that mainly contained her obsessing with PhI'll to extreme levels.

Shirley was everywhere in 2014 and the first half of 2015.

But they have toned it down massively since the end of last year and her presence never feels intrusive now. I've really enjoyed Shirley again this year.

She was worried about Phil and rang Sharon to come home. He's a friend she's not going to suddenly stop caring about him.
