Karen was paired with Jeremy Vine last season, there was no way they wanted her to win. Jo didn't have a celeb partner at all. Deciding to hate on a pairing even before their first dance seems silly, and imo none of the pros deserve this contempt and detest. While we're at it, hasn't Pasha had promising partners for multiple years? As well as Aljaz? And there are many married/engaged pro couples, not just Kevin and karen.

Pasha had Carol last year and Alijaz has Alison in his second year.

I don't think the BBC have ever sat down and decided who they want ton win.
Why should it make any difference to them?
If some of their own, stay in until the final then that's good enough for them. In fact if one of theirs won too frequently, they'd be accused of fixing it.

The only thing they want to "win," is the ratings battle with ITV, for the most watched programme on a Saturday night.

I agree with you.
If the Beeb wanted that, surely they would request an easing of the celebs daily commitments.
Carol, Kellie and Jeremy were all doing Strictly after their normal day jobs.

Yawn...these type of threads weren't amusing the first time and they're certainly not amusing the hundredth time. Have a look at what already exists before you post - a bit of originality never hurt anyone. Neither did having manners for that matter.

And no-one's forcing you to vote for anyone...

It's threads like these that make me wish the mods hadn't got rid of the eye rolling smiley years ago!!

This is a forum for people to discuss Strictly, not a self help book.

I don't think prejudice is the right word anyway. The people who dislike the Cliftons, are not making a sweeping statement about a whole nation, race, etc. They are simply not keen on the personalities of 3 people, based on what they have seen on TV. We all have people we find annoying both on TV and in real life. We can't all like everyone, we would be living in a kids storybook if we did!”

It wasn't my intention to preech. I don't care whether the OP dislikes Joanne, Karen and Kevin or not. Its no skin off my nose either way. But it seems it is skin off the OP's nose because they themselves lamented the fact that s/he couldn't bring themself to vote for Will despite really wanting Will to win. My intention was just to point out a simple solution. By getting over one's prejudices, you can get the enjoyment out of the show you had hoped for.

I do think it is a prejudice i.e a preconceived opinion with no empirical or rational basis. Unless of course the OP is a personally acquainted with the Cliftons.

Pasha had:
Chelsee-finalist
Kimberly - finalist and ringer
Rachel - contender on paper
Caroline - winner and mega ringer
And then, only then, he had Carol.

She didn't do too badly with Mark Wright, having got to the 2014 Final and finishing 4th. He's been her best contestant so far.

I'd forgotten she had Mark Wright.
All that therapy I paid for obviously worked!

Karen did quite well with her first partner Nicky Byrne too, they came 6th and he was quite a good dancer.

Joanne's due a good partner, and given how good a job Karen did with Jeremy and Dave, I'm fine with her getting a chance this year- especially if it is her last year.
Kevin, on the other hand:
Susanna Reid: Done and won the CIN Special
Frankie Bridge: Girlbander, obvious experience
Kellie Bright: Attended Sylvia Young.
Louise Redknapp: See Frankie AND was a judge on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!!!
4/4 ringers, totally unfair.

1. CiN special - probably a week's training tops
2. Girlband - not ballroom/Latin
3. Sylvia Young - not ballroom/Latin
4. SYTYD judge - doesn't actually have to be able to dance.

4 good prospects, yes, but ringers? No - a ringer would be someone with actual ballroom/Latin experience or a day job as a dancer.

When assessing the abilities of girl band dancing, you have to appreciate that with many, the videos are cut to a different angle, every three or four steps, as they obviously can't manage more than that at a time.

I don't think you need to be personally acquainted with the Cliftons to have an opinion on them, good or bad.

It just seems silly to make statements, that you won't vote for a pairing because of the pro in it, even before their first dance, on a dance show, because you hate the pro so much. It sounds kind of personal, tbh.

The Cliftons always get the challenging ones, if they do well it's down to their own teaching skills and good luck to them

Kevin I think only once have they given him someone that's not around 40.
This year they gave him the woman who has told the dress department she wants to cover herself up. She wasn't great in the group dance which is when the assessed them all for partners.

Jo has had Scott Mills and then got told to sit on the bench the next year.
Ore is in Manchester, the pros live in London. I know give him to Jo - she can travel to a mainline station and then sit on another train for hours and he can send her mobile phone videos at other times.

Karen gets the duffers or Marky 'No Moves' his friends agree with him that he is an uncoordinated dancer.
This year they have given her the one that jumps around like a toddler when performing his songs and in the past whenever he's had to do choreography to any song they give him the utmost basic moves like - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxVcbpjQs90 .

The location issue is an interesting one, it must be difficult for the pros - I remember that Brendan was stroppy about travelling to Bristol to train Sunetra and Ola was in Liverpool for Ashley, hanging around until late evening when he'd finished filming Hollyoaks (to be fair she never complained). I even recall Aliona going to Florida to train Tony and James was in the US (New York?) with Pamela although these were in the three week period between the launch show and the beginning of the competition.

This time around as you say Jo has been in Manchester with Ore, I know that AJ is staying in a hotel in Bristol whilst he's training Claudia as he has tweeted about it regularly and I assume Pasha may be staying in the Midlands somewhere to be near Naga. I think most of the others are in or near London.

Pasha and Ola also had to travel to Manchester the year they partnered Chelsee & Robbie (plus Kristina spent the first 3 weeks there too as Jason Donovan was still in his musical - Priscilla I think). Aliona had to travel all over the place to train Matt Baker. So as you say, hardly a unique position for Jo to be in & the pros will be aware of the possibility of this happening beforehand.

I assume that the pros go where ever the celeb is working or living.
Joanne won't be commuting every day London to Manchester to train Ore

Poor Camilla Dallerup had to follow Roger Black "half way around Europe" as he had "motivational speaking engagements."

Can I get your therapist's number? I am still scarred. (I really didn't like Mark!)

I like all the Cliftons. I'll be fair and say that I don't think that Kevin has had a total duffer yet (though we'll have to see how Louise does in the lives), but equally, it's not like he's had a top contender every time either.

Frankie was probably the best on paper - but he's done really well with all his contestants (in fact, I think that Frankie was the only one where he possibly dropped the ball a bit, because her skill encouraged him to throw a bit too much at her and she couldn't handle it. But, I respect the fact that he didn't play it super-safe & that he made sure she got to learn stuff and stretch herself.)

Karen and Jo have definitely not been historically given the pick of the bunch either - but they both do really well with the joke contestants, as they don't take themselves too seriously. I think Kevin would be great with a total duffer too for the same reason.

I don't know much about Karen's dance background, but Jo and Kevin have been practically raised to be dance teachers, so it stands to reason that they'll get the best they can out of their celebs.
