Oh for heavens sake no one here is suggesting a disabled murderer should be ill treated.
But if you think that this move is not part of the whole defence gearing up for a huge rebuttal of the appeal then you are incredibly naive , or blinded by your rather misguided infatuation with this case and the whole poor Pistorius " romantic drama. .
I know it really is difficult for you to address it but he is a convicted murderer of an entirely innocent young woman. Your constant excuses for him are depressing reading.
Why do you think it will make a difference to any SCA appeal where he is imprisoned?

No need for the snappy tone I'm no more infatuated than you are. (You're not, are you?!) And it's not me having difficulty in addressing -and accepting- what he has been found to have done.

ETA: BIB I should hope not! But no one has suggested that anyone else has said such an outrageous thing anyway.

If my posts depress you - don't read them.

I hold my hands up and admit to perverse fascination with the case. Mostly with the inequality of of justice between the rich and the poor. This case has held a white luminosity to the enormous gulf between the rich and poor, and what justice can be bought, particularly in SA. Tho it's a world wide phenomena.
I'm so pleased that there has been some form of outcry at how this case has unfolded. Tho money will win, it always does.....in the end.
Yours and a few others position is for me unfathomable. It neither serves justice nor society to continually excuse a murderer.
He was ill. He was disabled, he had a tough childhood, he was an addict, he was provoked , he was suffering from stress. His fear factor was acute.
Have you been in court day in day out and heard all of this ad nauseum ? Should all murderers be excused ?

Just given endless preferential treatment and nothing to do with being disabled or not. Masipa's 6 year sentence now snaps into context, with his apparent eligibility to be moved to what appears to be a nicely tucked away cosy place. There to serve out a part of his ridiculously short term.

I've alway's said they would tuck him away where he can slip out of sight in comfortable circumstances.

There really isn't the evidence to support the claim that he has had endless preferential treatment.

Based on what has been written, what makes you think the new prison is cosy? I haven't seen reports that describe it in that way. If it is better suited for an inmate with his disabilities and is actually a prison for sentenced criminals rather than for those on remand, I don't see how there is such a problem with him being moved there: he has been sentenced and he is disabled. It's nothing for people to get in a flap about.

A disabled man serving 6 years in a general prison, transferred to a prison for disabled men serving 6 years or less is totally unsurprising and hardly news-worthy.

It's almost as if there is "crusading" to ensure that anything that happens to OP must be seen in the worst possible light.

Water of a Ducks Back ... and whilst talking of water the poor boy is probably at this moment playing with his ducks, as by coincidence the Correctional Facility installed baths for its guests in May. Authorities there have made it clear that this is apparently totally unconnected to the Trial and my guess nothing of course to do with the long wait for Masipa to resit and eventual convenient qualifying 6 year sentence.

Oscar and his forward planning friends requested the move.

The department said Pistorius’ transfer was purely due to his application

He was being held at a remand centre because the hospital wing could accommodate his disability, but being a remand centre it couldn't offer the necessary rehabilitation programmes.... a nearby prison for sentenced inmates is refurbished to accommodate people with disabilities and runs the appropriate rehabilitation courses. Pistorius applies for a transfer as he is a)sentenced, not on remand, b) disabled and c)entitled to appropriate rehabilitation programmes. The move is granted because he fits the requirements. Really, what is the big problem here?

Good post.
I know a highly regarded professor in psychology who allowed someone with no conviction into her personal life who was much younger than her after throwing some money into his hat on a street. He give all positives out over a few years. Got on his feet and had it going. She felt proud until he was charged with the murder and rape of a very old lady who lived near by. Just because she knew him and his back round she continued to support him and what he had done purely on the basis of why he had came to what he had done. The fact the murder after the rape was frenzied by stabbing so many times got him off with the highest charge. She felt comfort in that.
She told me that ( among other reasons/excuses) that this is the reason she visited and supported him in prison. I ended out personal relationship right there on a personal tone.
Personal involvement can mess up the critical thinking of even the most reasonable minds

Our stances don't need excusing.

Stressy-I've enjoyed your very thoughtful posts. However just because curly's and porky;s "stance" in all this doesn't gel with the majority doesn't make them any less valid.

Why do we need to excuse the settled legal findings? OP killed who he thought was an intruder and got sent to prison. Job done.

Okay he could serve a couple more years, but there's no argument there.
