Thought it was good. Its what top gear was, 3 blokes with chemistry having a laugh together. The american doesnt work and could probably do with being dropped like the original stig was and the RAF/USAF thing was a bit stupid but overall it was fine and ill continue watching.

Not on Amazon though, not a chance im paying them on top of the licence fee and sky sub.
Same here, i watched it easily on a streaming site.

It was never a car show. It was a mates having a laugh show. That's what made it a family show, and a worldwide hit. This *is* a car show. Whether petrolheads are a big enough demographic to do the Sky/Premiership Trojan Horse thing for Amazon Prime remains to be seen.
That episode might have been a "car show", but future episodes might not be (next week's isn't by all accounts).

Wait till some next episodes and we'll see if it's a "car show" even the trailers suggest otherwise, if you want that you know where to go

Since the show is kinda based on cars in general it had to open like that.

I'm just wondering how long each episode is available?
Does it have a deadline to be watched ?

Should be there for ever unless it appears in the limited time section? I've only had it a few months.

Fairly solid start, enjoyed the Hothouse Flowers at the start. Opening 20 minutes or so felt that they were trying to hard and it seemed a little forced, though it did settle down

Hyper car section went on too long, do we really need to see them slide about 100 times and in slo mo.

RAF/USAF was embarrasing as was celebrity brain thingy. Think it may work better with a British crowd who may understand their sense of humour a little better

M2 was good if a bit short, would liike to have seen a full on road test

More than watchable, and to be fair I generally liked the new TG as well

8/10

Just Watched the first ep and was apprehensive before I saw it that it would be too different from TG but thankfully it's not at least with regards to them 3. It also looked incredible in UHD and HDR especially the cars and the scenery. From the montage the other eps look great too. Yes not all the eps will be like the first one but TG was a success because of Clarkson may and Hammond and I don't expect this to change.

...relative intimacy of a small studio...
*whispers* you do realise that it was recorded in an aeroplane hanger, don't you?

Loved it. The opening sequence was pure genius imo and there were a few good laughs throughout.

Just for the record... we bought a Fire stick and subscribed to Prime specifically to watch TGT. All the cars look the same to me, I watch for the laughs.

It is nice watching proper Top Gear on Dave but they chop it up too much.

Richard did a half hour interview on LBC this morning ( recorded interview ) in which he said that episode 2 will have less car in it - or certainly later in the series.

You know, as much as I like Clarkson and the chemistry between the three guys, if Clarkson had punched a woman in the face, Grand Tour wouldn't have been made ( probably ).

Yes, but they never felt the need to sit around a huge table on a raised platform and put the audience about fifty feet away just because they had the space to do it. Maybe I should have written small studio setup. They kept themselves and the audience in close, tight shot, which they lost in the tent.

Nah, that's a cheap "blame the Americans" cop out for something which just was badly done.

I think the crowd were selected because they were pre-existing Top Gear fans. They all seemed to understand what they were seeing. When they acted "surprised" at being insulted by Clarkson for being Americans, they only reacted "offended" for example, when the "script" called for them to do so to milk more laughs out of it. Certain things just didn't work, although thankfully only a few. For example, the idea of having a token American around then mocking him mercilessly wasn't inherently a bad idea. It simply failed in it's execution.

More than likely due to the lawyers insisting that it had to appear sufficiently different from the Top Gear audience setup.

I finally watched it today and was unimpressed.
I wanted to like it, I used to love Top Gear with
these three, but found the GT over the top in
almost every respect. And if those three get any
smugger, their heads may implode! Don't think I
will be bothering with the rest!

Eagle eyed viewers have spotted Chris Harris put up a road test of the same three supercars at the same track a while back:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3YPTkBRaOk

Must have shared the track day/week with TGT.

Would make sense from the manufacturers to organise any press/reviews etc.. in the same period.

Apart from the unofficial means and i don't trust amazon prime after an experience with them before is this series likely to be released on traditional DVD or blu ray

Likewise if he punched a child or had sex with an animal it probably wouldnt have been made either but he didnt so im kind of at a loss as to the point.

50 feet away? They were surrounding them on the table. It was no different.

IMDB is always a good indication of a shows quality, it's done really well with there with the ratings.

Ratings: 9.7/10 from 6,358 users, impressive but we knew it would be a success

Yes it is Top Gear with more money than the BBC have. Personally I think the fact that they can't legally use certain things from the past has only given it a breath of fresh air and cleared out some of the dusty things.

It was a bit car-ry this week but of course it was to attract new viewers.

There was enough of all the old jokes in there to keep old viewers entertained and reassured that it was still the same 3 goons having a laugh.

The different place each week is great as it gives it a feeling of a mini Top Gear special without it being one.

Good to have the real Top Gear back.

But I don't think this is a show where we will ever get true figures on as most people I know just don't have amerzon prime and downloaded it as I did on torrents. So how many more million around the world watched it who are not taken into account?

You're right of course I don't know why I wrote that. Fifty feet was meant to be an exaggeration to begin with that I couldn't be bothered to check, but thinking back, I think you're right that there probably wasn't much in it between old TG and this in terms of how near the audience were. I think it was because they were on a platform, sat upright round a table with the audience on three sides, as opposed to relaxing on a comfy sofa at floor level with them in the middle of the audience, it sometimes seemed to me there was a 'distance' between them and the audience that wasn't there before. I'll get used to this new setup, but it'd be great if they can continue mingling within the audience when one of them annoys Clarkson for some reason, as they used to.

I guess it was as close to Top Gear as it was legally able to be. The filmed segments were outstanding, just stunning but the tent segments came across as very stilted and it felt very scripted whereas TG, whilst similarly scripted, came across much more naturally.

I'll assume that they were nervous and doing a new show with new features and avoiding using certain catchphrases is always going to be a lot tougher than doing TG which they were inherently comfortable with. It will take a while to settle down, TG was developed and honed throughout many series, let's not forget.

They don't know what is going to work immediately, so doubtless it will improve over time. Part of the charm of TG was the running gags, we don't really know what those will be in TGT yet, and they'll creep in over time anyway.
