I thought the first 10 minutes of Ep1 was excellent - the right amount of hubris and ballsy production. Since then, I've just been bored.

The first episode seemed to consist of cars going round tracks and that was pretty much it, the second was a rehash of some old TG military-based ideas with the interminable shoot 'em up bit. The 'speaky' bits in the tent I find dull, with the usual gurning-to-camera and pretending-to-be-idiots routine. It just all looks so tired as a formula. The one section that could have held some interest - the wheel spinners - was just glossed over with no attempt to examine the culture behind it.

From around 2004 to about 2009, I thought Top Gear was genuinely warm, funny, intuitive and original. I kept watching since then as it occasionally came out with some gems - mainly of a more serious, documentary nature. But the later Top Gears, and now GT, strike me as having poor scripts, a complete lack of fresh ideas and very little entertainment value.

All humour is basically subjective as a guy earlier on here said he was having hysterics at Ep2! It didn't raise a smile with me I'm afraid.

I don't get the fuss about the opening scene I found it boring and the stage was pointless.

I absolutely loved the opening scene, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end then bought a tear to my eye.

I adored it.

I watched episode 2 last night, and I have to admit, I too was slightly disappointed.

The best bit was James May at the spinning event - a low key segment, but the highlight of the episode for me.
The worst bit was the SAS challenge. It felt like an extremely poorly written and acted sitcom. I know ‘old Top Gear’ was largely scripted, but at least it was played as a factual piece, this was played as a straight out comedy sketch and I didn’t like it.

I agree ‘The American’ isn’t really working, but maybe it’ll just take a bit if time to get used to him.
Just thinking though, if they wanted an ‘American’ for the role (and I can understand why), why didn’t they recruit Tanner Foust from Top Gear USA – a professional driver, a likeable personality, and a good sense of humour.

Episode 3 much better. Still no need for celebrity brain crash though.

Enjoyed the tour of Italy.

It was a decent film utterly utterly ruined once again by doing a joke again and again and again and again and again and again and again

25 minutes in, just finished the first part of the Italy film. Really enjoying this one. It's a classic road trip. This is what they do best.

Episode 3 is much more like classic Top Gear. Big improvement on last week's.

It's, admittedly coarse, teenage schoolboy humour. Although that has to based on my experiences at comprehensive school over thirty years ago as I don't have sprogs of my own. They probably say a lot worse nowadays when there are no teachers within earshot.

Best episode of the series for me so far. Everything was perfect, could not find anything wrong with it.
We know the Brain Crash is get celebrity guests on in some form, but not interview them as that would get the Beeb's lawyers itchy fingers hovering over the phone/keyboard springing into action. We also know it's sticking around for the rest of the series, so we are just going to have to tolerate it until W. Chump & Sons can think of something to replace it.

The Britain Crash was a one episode joke at best, the problem as I
see it is that the scripted banter has become overblown sketches that unfold at a snail's pace.

I just feel the best is yet to come from the trailer snippets too, you know the classic road trip challenges like the buggies in the desert and James sailing in a car made of bricks and the crane scene

Looks look classic Top Gear, can't wait.

I enjoyed episode three, would just like Hammond to tone it down a notch or two - he's 46, not 16. The Italian trip was good, no American stig a bonus.

Looking forward to other stuff seen on trailers in future episodes.

Better this week. All they need to do now (imho) is get rid of the celeb bit all together and have more chats about cars etc in the tent like they used to with "the news" segment on TG and they'll be there. Oh and more road trips. It's a shame each episode isn't a mini road trip actually.

Oh and that WAS JC's actual house. Although he was given permission to re-build on the land a few years ago so it needed bringing down.

Certainly the strongest of the series so far, but my goodness Hammond has become more annoying the older he gets. The constant shouting and explaining in a melodramatic tone is just too much in places. The tour of Italy with May and Clarkson was great when they were on their own, but when he shows up it was just annoying.

He doesn't help himself by dying his hair and wearing clothes 20 years too old for him. He looks completely out of place with the rest of the team.

It looks like they're going to carry on with Celeb Brain Crash unfortunately too

At least we actually got to see Simon Pegg this week

But, yes, it's the weakest part imo.
