Hammond has always made me feel stabby but i think its got far worse on the Grand Tour. I know its a "persona" but couldnt he take it down from 11 a bit.

By far the best of the series so far. Completely scripted, but that's fine if the script is funny!

[quote=FinalAnswer?;84770813]Certainly the strongest of the series so far, but my goodness Hammond has become more annoying the older he gets. The constant shouting and explaining in a melodramatic tone is just too much in places. The tour of Italy with May and Clarkson was great when they were on their own, but when he shows up it was just annoying.

The whole point of the film was he was supposed to be anoying

Well he succeeded, far too well IMO.

Is the 'Dawn' the first coupé with suicide doors?

I saw one of these a few months ago. It's beautiful. Probably my favourite Rolls Royce of all time.

Whitby episode was a bit dull for my liking sadly. I thought we were going to see Jimmy Carr zooming around on a jetski in the harbour for one thing. And I would have loved to have seen much more of the lads driving around Whitby / N Yorks Moors in those lovely Jensen Interceptors we saw right at the start.

Instead all we got was 50 minutes of them doing the same joke over and over in Italy, a pointless segment with a cyclist in a septic tank and a house being blown up.

No 3 is the best episode so far (apart from the opening of no 1).
The Hammond joke went on a bit but the rest was great, even a serious point about the number of people learning to drive.

Better this week. The Italy trip was just like TG but perhaps dragged out a little too far. Best yet but still room for improvement.

PS Why didn't Hammond just put his painting in one of his lorries?

They recorded 2 shows in Whitby Jimmy Carr is in the second one. I really hope they are going to kill him off

According to http://www.drivingtesttips.biz/drivi...each-year.html there were 731,574 tests in 2014/15 which is 14,000 a week so not sure where their figures came from but the data does show a big decrease in tests (and passes) in the last 10 years.

Surely they are not going to introduce a celebrity and then kill them off? That would be hilarious(!)

I noticed in the Italy trip there were no 'challenges' I assume that's something else the BBC are preventing?

By the way anyone noticed that the vile BBC are flogging yet another re-hashed best of 'proper' Top Gear DVD for Christmas?

Thought it was another good episode, better than last week and good to see the American wasn't on. I did find Hammond being annoying funny, but part of me wished he had a sensible car and it was more about the beautiful Italy scenery and the tour.

Best episode so far. Although I don't get why they don't do features in the country they are situated in? Why not do some sort of mini road trip through the UK in this episode. Why didn't they do anything in the US in ep 1 etc? Whats the point of going to all these different places if they don't make any use of the places?

I said that in my ep.1 review. It just shouted of "We'll spend £5m per episode because we can."

Overall I'm enjoying the show, but it has a few frustrations about it.

The second episode was weak... as in, one of the weakest I've seen with the trio. I didn't find it funny, or enjoyable. Yes, the show and TG have a reputation for being scripted... but that's pretty much always balanced by some notion of factual content. That element had never been weaker before, and it became a tiresome exercise in 'look how much money we've got' combined with the same few tiresome jokes being uttered again and again.

The third episode has been the best of the three... parts of the Italy video were brilliant, both in terms of the comedy and the tour itself. The only thing letting it down was again a joke that just went way too far - Hammond is annoying. He's always been the one I've found annoying, but he really upped the ante here and tainted an otherwise great episode. The whole point was of course how annoying he was meant to be - but what's the point of the point? It added nothing, it just detracted. It was so overly obnoxious in places that it robs segments like the house explosion of their comedy value, because the rest of the episode has already been a bit try-hard.

The first episode falls down the middle...some great bits, others that dragged. Jokes that were okay, but three episodes later haven't improved or changed. I don't mind the fact that the challenges and drives don't match up with the filming location...that would likely be very complicated to piece together, and I quite like the tent idea. You never know where they'll end up next.

Definitely sticking with this as it has a lot going for it, but Hammond seriously needs to tone it down, and whilst scripted segments are as good as always the script has to be good, the jokes don't work when you use them half a dozen times over, and it has to be balanced out by some sense of facts, or at the very least something entertaining. Thinking back on the Italy trip and all I can take away from it is how annoying he was...it utterly distracted from the cars, and indeed the amazing cities they were visiting.

By the time we get to 12 episodes will these be stacked up so we can watch them all in 1 month?

It was nearby Whitby where Clarkson had his 'argument' over the lack of a hot meal in TG. Surprised he is drawn back there, though of course it is Yorkshire which he seems proud with which to be associated.
As I and others have remarked it would seem more fitting to use the backdrop of the country they are visiting.

Yes, that's how Amazon works. They'll all be there in perpetuity as an original.

You'd only need half a day though, thereabouts

I am in total disagreement with me of you.

I enjoyed the 2 episode the best as it had the three stooges doing what the 3 stooges do and being silly.

THIS IS NOT A CAR SHOW PEOPLE!

But they're not comedians and that entire skit wasn't funny in the slightest

A very fair summing up. The Hammond thing was a single joke stretched too far. This was the best episode yet but it still feels a bit like it was padded out. Not sure if 12 episodes on the spin will hold up or not. Was a distinct improvement this week though.

I agree with everyone saying it seems like there's no point of The Grand Tour being 'on tour' at the moment.

The tent is a great idea, but currently only serves as a window for Celebrity Braincrash, which I foolishly predicted was going to be a 1-episode gag.

I'm looking forward to the "special" without the tent just so it's not wasted
