I feel that some small boy should point out that this emperor is actually wearing no clothes...

Yes the American driver just doesn't feel right in any way I get the feeling it's been edited a few minutes here and there before being uploaded to Prime, I reckon he won't be back in the next season.

I'm even warming to the celeb bit to see how they die it was pretty funny

Thought I'd give it a go and managed 3 minutes of episode 1 before I had to turn it off. Thank god for showbox.

3 minutes wow. Sound like you went into this with your mind already made up.

Went in with an open mind and 3 minutes later it was made. I apologise if me not enjoying it has upset you which it clearly has.

lol did I say I was upset? doesn't bother me but 3 minutes isn't enough time to form an opinion and it's hardly worth commenting on unless you're after attention.

Not after any attention. Just posted my opinion on what I thought about it. I watched 3 minutes of it and didn't enjoy those 3 minutes.

You're correct Woodbine DS is in general negative, this thread was always going to be more so, a few moaners on here is nothing, but I find official facebook pages always a good read and chat

Fair enough. But 3 minutes isn't going in with an open mind and if I've watched a show for that long I couldn't give my opinion about a show because I haven't given it time.

But again doesn't bother me if people dislike a show, I just personally don't understand how someone can form an opinion based on 3 minutes.

I always find there's more moaners on The Walking Dead thread than any other, it's more depressing than the show lol.

A whole three minutes? Too funny

I thought it was better this week. Still think American driver has to go. I've been thinking about the gap left by star in a reasonably priced car. and wondering if they could still invite stars on to interview, talk about current film/book/album etc , their car history and then maybe get them to play a driving game or something similar in the tent and record their times on a board. What do you think?

I'm slowly beginning to warm to the Yank driver, a little goes a long way though.

I agree though, rather than killing them, it might be better to have a brief chat and maybe show them doing something car related. I wonder if Michael Gambon is available?

Enjoyed the maggot infested meat car and the quick swipe at 'New Top Gear'

Loving this series. May's car fails were hilarious in today's episode.

I was thinking they should maybe get the celebrities to pop up during the random tent segments, so Simon Pegg could have turned out to be 'driving' Jeremy's voice activated car and Jimmy Carr could have been the 'reversing camera' from the most recent episode

I loved the first episode but it pains me to say this but it hasn't been great since then.

Episode 1 - California
Episode 2 - Johannesburg
Episode 3 - Whitby
Episode 4 - Whitby

Not looking good.

In order for the challenges to work they have to be feasible.

Since I was already a Prime member I will obviously continue watching but I'm starting to think that the 4,000,000 per episode was ill spent.

Its increasingly looking like they cant do challenges on TGT. The eco car bit in the most recent episode if that had been on old TG then all three cars would have been able to actually drive and there would have been 2/3 challenges before a race possibly to a finish line. Instead what we get is some funny bits stretched over a repeating joke (James' car modifications) that starts to get less funny each time. On the positive it looks like they are listening to feed back highly suspect a lot of the yank test drivers unfunny comments have been taken out in edits.

Just checked if you gave episode 1 three mins before turning off then you are still in the introduction video before they even arrive at the tent for the first time. So you are juding the show with out actually watching any of the content

I think this makes some good points about it being too scripted in which it loses its spontaneity and ad-libbing ....

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...n-era-top-gear

I don't agree that .... this is such an easy show to get right .... It's not!

It's not quite working for me but I think it can be fixed.

I think killing off the star is annoying as although I'm slowly getting used to this I still feel let down we don't get to see them interact with the guys. Although the old sirpc segment was structured it still allowed a bit of banter and non scripted spontaneity. I know the amazon lawyers were apparently concerned about repeating the chat show type segment but you can use the star in other more interesting ways. Maybe they could do something with the star and then kill them off?

I'm indifferent to the American but it seems like a one hit joke with the communist comments and everything he drives is not as good as his NASCAR. Obviously brought in the replace the stig who, could be argued, was also a one hit joke but they seemed to be able to milk that more than what they are doing at the moment.

I'm getting used to the new track and they do appear to be able to film some nice shots on it. I also like that they spent 2 weeks at Whitby as it just seemed a waste moving the tent around for 15 to 20 mins of tent time a week. If say they spent 3 eps at one location they maybe able to build some regular segments around that structure and give them an anchor.

The challenges seem to have lost their point, although I'm not sure they ever had a point, but they need a beginning, middle and end with some sort of conclusion with a points based system. Yes they do seem overly scripted and need more spontaneity. I think it would be good for the challenge to be set by the\a star rather than andy wilman to give them better structure. Given the logistics of filming with maybe the star filming setting the challenges after the films have been made, they could even make a point of not knowing which star set them.

Other points, tent feels a bit small. Maybe have other rooms off the tent .... not necessarily real rooms that tour the world, but ones that play into a film segment. They seem more scripted when sitting down at the table, just as they did in the news segment on the old show. Stand up as if feels less scripted.

Anyway still enjoying it and it needs to settle with some adjustments made.

Yet another excellent episode, the only disappointing bit is the bit with the fat American driver, maybe they should have got a proper racing driver.

Yes and that was enough to make me realise it wasn't the program for me. I'm judging the show on the content I watched.

There's plenty of shows I've watched the start of and thought no I don't want to watch anymore of this. I bet you've done the same also.

Can't disagree with you, pretty much spot on. The "challenge" wasn't bad at all but for me too long. I was never a fan of the SIARPC but the TGT does seem to show that without something else it's a struggle to fill an entire hour.

Don't think I will ever take to the American driver. I think the conversation pieces are improving after tbe first two which were very forced and stilted.

Indeed. It can be fixed but it needs some imagination. They do seem very constrained and stuck between what they want to do and what the lawyers allow them to do.

The article is wrong about the scripting. TG was very tightly scripted, although I daresay there were some ad-libs added in but the main issue is that whereas TG didn't sound or appear to be scripted, TGT does. TGT comes across as very forced and unnatural - it's difficult to quite understand why that should be given the team's experience and years of working together.

TGT does seems to be getting better...not quite there yet though. I might be warming to the American and we got some mid-range cars on display this time but not enough ad-libs yet.

Loved the fourth episode. The eco cars was funny, more of what we are to expect of the trio.

Where are they next week?
