Well, they could have tried rally driving through the forests or driving on iced up lakes which as both frequently done and quite fun, even in an average rep-mobile. Of course you have to make sure the lake is frozen sufficiently but in the north that's not too difficult.

James May has been the only saving grace in this series. His items have been really well done, even if the donut one could have done with being a bit more beefy. Regardless of the ice cream comment, Hammond has been awful throughout the entire show. His constant gimmick of trying to be irritating wore thin almost as quickly as the celebrity death parts. Plus his dyed hair makes him look like he's having an even bigger midlife crisis than his co presenters.

I didn't expect to say it, but I think I've enjoyed Evan's Top Gear more than this series.

So everyone who watches The Grand Tour is homophobic? Your post is complete nonsense.

If you are that offended by a silly joke, then don't watch The Grand Tour.

Your comment is as bad as Hammond's, both idiotic and stupid.

If Plundermot watches TGT is he calling himself a homophobic?

Or it's a work, you know, for publicity.

It's not like they've got bbc management worrying about this nonsense any more.

They might not have the BBC worrying about their escapades anymore, but they will certainly have Amazon to answer to. They have an image to uphold no matter how much money they threw at this series.

It was a poor move by the presenters for the comments, and a poor move by the producers in keeping it in the show.

Thought this was an absolutely terrible episode.

Hammond's Mustang film dragged on far, far too long and full of scripted and forced 'jokes'.

"Conversation Street" really was awful. Not only Hammond's homophobic comments, but the whole thing was so forced and wooden and lacking in any real "banter". The presenters have become glorified answering machines, just spouting out their lines in order rather than having any sort of actual joking around.

I am amazed that Hammond made that comment about ice cream and I am amazed that Amazon left it in. Either way, it was an unbelievably stupid thing to say. Hammond now comes across as a desperate, sad old man trying to get cheap laughs through crass 'jokes".

And then there's the dullards in the audience who laugh and clap at absolutely everything. Sycophantic idiots.

The Christmas gift ideas segment was incredibly forced and unfunny. Hammond trying far, far too hard.

The May film at the end was alright and more what you would expect.

They revel in the controversy though, don't they, it's part of their 'brand'. The Grand Tour team like to think they're not politically correct. Getting the press all riled up about some 'outrageous' comment only reinforces the perception they already have of themselves.

Personally, these occasional boorish comments don't bother me too much. I don't agree with most of them and think they're pretty juvenile, but you just have to accept them as part and parcel of the whole thing.

The relevant regulator already approved the episode, giving it a 15 rating for "frequent crude references".

The regulators are not the ones who produce or distribute the show, though. They can suggest cuts to make the piece of media conform to a specific age rating, but not make edit decisions. That's left to edit producers, MD's and commissioners.

Why would amazon care about this? On January 20th you're going to be in a world where footage exists of the president of the USA using the n word, the c word, & "every racist and sexist slur imaginable" and nobody seems to care.

Of course you could criticise Hammond because as obvious stunts go, this is unfunny and pretty desperate, but that's still no reason to take it seriously.

Any indication that Amazon are concerned? Or that they wish to keep JC on a tight rein?

Why would they care? Because someone working for their brand made comments to suggest ice cream is for gay people. Amazon have am image to uphold, if they're then associated with someone who makes those sort of comments, it reflects poorly on them for employing them and broadcasting their words. It's not good for their company, regardless of how.many viewers it gets.

How hard it that to grasp?

That was a superb episode, I loved James May's Le Mans bit at the end.

Not surprising that the tumblr special snowflakes are up in arms about Hammond's ice cream comment though.

It's a non sequitur, a joke. Not a very good one, but still.

Amazon sells all kind of offensive material without caring.

The reason why James May moved to GT was basically he gets on with Clarkson & Hammond. Even though they have been off for 18 months they have overall been good IMO. Yes the celebrity brainwash is boring & they should ditch it. but to be honest I only watch two of Evans Top Gear & got bored. I give Top Gear anothuer go but they need a team that gels or change the format.

Although TGT is one of my weekly must see shows it's been a bit of a disappointment and hasn't lived up to the hype.
How many here could say that any of the episodes would make it into their top ten list of all time favourite Top Gear episodes?
They're trying too hard to be funny and I would never have guessed it cost so much more than the BBC version.
Three guys, three cars, road trip. That'll do me.
They don't even have to be exotic hypercars or exotic locations (the crap 70s supercars for under £10000 was one of my favourites).
