iPhone Upgrade Program delays
Sandancer1
16-09-2016
Just spent two hours in the Apple Store trying to buy a 7 on the iPhone Upgrade Program, but the system kept freezing. Can't complain too much as I got a free Starbucks after an hour and a free £45 case after 2 hours, but still no phone and need to go back in later. Apparently it's a problem with the Barclays Partner Finance backend being unable to cope with the volumes.

The queues were out of the door as so many staff were tied up with the delays. Anyone else had issues with this?

I've seen a few reports that the Barclays system crashed at about 8:15 under the strain and they struggled all morning to try and get it working properly.

Strain? It's all being inputted by Apple staff isn't it? It's not like everyone sitting at home submitting an application themselves all at 8am. There can't be that much load on the system and it would be spread out throughout the day.

I'm guessing when reservations open up again at 6am tomorrow there still won't be any 7Ps, but would be nice if they told us in advance.

Strain is what customers are being told, Barclays couldn't handle the sudden demand in requests.

Have a read here for example:

Mad thread with accounts of people queuing up to four hours to get hold of a new item of consumer electronics... As people say, it seems to be akin to a religion for some!

I went to the Apple Store around 16:00, everything was working in full order. No problems at all.

You can use Barclays finance at home for other payment options from apple so maybe it was the demand in general.

Yes mine was delivered yesterday morning. 7 plus, 128GB in rose gold. I ordered from the Apple Store app around 8 am on the day pre-orders went live and paid out right for the phone.
