I've seen it suggested that Westworld is on another planet but surely there would be some differences to Earth yet it looks exactly the same.

You do have a point about such a vast expanse of land still being available in the future to use in such a way but it's still possible I suppose.

Another possible explanation is that Westworld is on Earth but not in the future.

When we saw William step from the outfitting room he somehow ends up on a moving train.

So he was either teleported or was somehow moved there without his knowledge and seemingly no time passing (drugged maybe).

What if instead of a simple Teleporter it was also a Time portal and Westworld is actually built in the distant past of America.

Explains why they have so much land to use and why it looks so much like Earth (it is, just 1000's of years earlier).

We know the Westworld staff don't get home often and communication to the outside world is limited both of which suggest Westworld is a little further afield than "present day" Colorado or Wyoming.

An alternative to the Time Travel option is that the teleporter is a door to an alternate Earth, one where humanity never evolved and thus lots of land to build a massive theme park on.

If it's off world then I'd suggest that it's an artificially created environment. It could be a disguised dome with a fake sky with day and night cycles. It's probably still in our solar system though as the Orion constellation is still visible presumably in the formation we'd expect.

Is the MIB, Arnold?

I can't believe that. After all the park must know MiB is in the park. They can surely track him and see what he does. They would know, therefore, who he is.

They seemed indifferent to him when they saw him killing in that little village.

With regard to the off-world possibility, I'm reminded of something I think Teddy said or was told (maybe it was during the 'remembering' of Wyatt's story) - I'll have to rewatch later to get it right - about "this place" being for "what comes next". Simple reading of that would just be that 'this place' was referring to Westworld, but that's a bit limiting; it would make some sense if this world was a place where man was almost unwittingly the seeder of 'what comes next'.

Marshal McLuhan:
"Man becomes, as it were, the sex organs of the machine world, as the bee of the plant world, enabling it to fecundate and to evolve ever new forms. The machine world reciprocates man's love by expediting his wishes and desires, namely, in providing him with wealth"

ETA: Thinking back to Ep2 and Ford's encounter with the boy host in the desert - Ford controls the Snake and tells the boy that (in effect, again I'll have to recheck for exact wording) everything here is unreal (fake, 'magic'). So either actual Snakes are extinct, or he is 100% confident a real Snake could not be encountered there..... which seems a risky assumption unlesss you knew there was no chance of such a thing being there at all..!

I thought the carving on the wood was the Great Bear not Orion (looked like a saucepan).

Anyway - fabulous slow burning stuff with lots to think about. Who cares if the answers are not drip fed to you, I like it like this.

I'm sure a lot of people do like it this way but as I said before if HBO wants this to be a GoT replacement, they'll need to make it easier to follow.

He is looking for a deeper part of the game and the map to get there isnt he? If Arnold helped design the whole thing surely he would already know if thats there and the way to it if needed?

I just noticed that when Delores take the gun out of the drawer looks at it and puts it back then has a flashback about the MiB when the action cut back to her the wrapped gun in the drawer is gone. While the flashback is being shown did she take it out and
Spoiler
and use it later in the barn

or is it a conitunity error?

Spoiler for event later in this episode [3]

far too big of a mistake, considering they emphasised the gun, for it to be a continuity error

I think you're right, but with these type of show, you can never be sure.
I'm really enjoying it so far, but I hope the writers have the story arc planned out and it doesn't end up like Lost

Just rewatching Ep3 for anything I missed.

Most likely she's remembering different cycles.

She finds the gun hidden in the ground and puts it in the drawer.
Another cycle she finds the gun in the drawer and just puts it back.
Another cycle she finds the gun in the drawer and puts it elsewhere (see spoiler).
Another cycle she remembers putting the gun in the drawer but when she opens it it is gone.

Hope not or the show's being too clever for its own good.

You seem quite preoccupied with this particular issue.

I thought she just wrapped it in the cloth and put it back in the drawer.

She did, but when she opened the drawer again, it was gone, i doubt this was a continuity error, i expect it is for a reason.

I am! I'll step back a bit now though and try to be more positive.

Trying to think of ways of how William and friend boarded the park train so smoothly from the visitor centre. Could it be that the visitor centre can glide from the park entrance to the train allow an airlock style entry on to the train.

Maybe Arnold's 'accident' was before the maze was installed/built/discovered - or wasn't his 'area' - my guess is he was the 'brain' designer specifically, and sidelined by Ford for his ideas about host sentience.

I'll spoiler my assumption about that -

Spoiler
I think she was having 'deja vu' of the same loop moments building to this ultimate one. I think her 'inner voice' (Arnold) guided her to find the gun previously, she hid it in the drawer, but on this occasion she was remembering having stashed it there - her emerging anticipation of events in her loop led her to stow it in the barn hay (unseen, earlier), in anticipation of how her loop usually ends.

I think the old-time 'bar' they wandered into directly from the visitor centre was actually a Train carriage - it only became apparent when it jolted into motion, moved outdoors and light entered the windows?

”

It looked to me like she took the villain's gun from his holster, without him noticing, as she was being manhandled into the barn.

Maybe, unbeknownst to him, he was already in a different carriage on the train? Edit: (Just noticed someone has already suggested this).
TBH I don't really think about those things anymore than I think about where the dragons/magic came from in GoT, it's basically future fantasy.
