One idea I like which I've seen posted elsewhere and was mentioned in part here, is the idea that the critical malfunction from 30 years ago were the events that took place in the Westworld movie. Ignore the fact that the movie came out 43 years ago, it was set in an unknown future time and that could have been 30 years behind this current time.

If so, the Man in Black could be Richard Benjamin's character Peter Martin, who was given an all access pass as compensation for the troubles he suffered at that time. If he isn't Benjamin or anyone else who's got a freebie pass then he'd have to be super rich. Interesting ideas!

I thought it was obvious, that was the case. They exited an elevator into the train carriage. The elevator slipped back down again and then the train started moving.

That's the way i interpreted it, as she picked up the gun, the villain put his hands by his side as if getting or looking for his gun, which now wasn't there (as she had it).

So maybe this is how she got the gun and hid it afterwards, if and when she came back.

Agree great show I also like the slow burning stuff that makes you think, which is why I really like this, I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone though, just depends on what you like.

I',m really enjoying this , I love these explorations of what is AI and human consciousness , my only problem is the basic scenario of the place , I just don't see how the tourists would get involved when they can't be injured , obviously they wouldn't want to be really injured but there should be some consequence like in paintball or a video game , otherwise they'll just wander round shooting at the robots and being invincible which if you've ever played in cheat mode on a video game is quite boring really .

One of the hiuman characters did get shot in the last episode but ended up with a bruise like you would get in paintballing.

There are some fascinating ideas in this show, and I am enjoying watching it. I am fascinated by the storylines, with the story of Teddy and Wyatt, echoing the story of the creator and his friend...And the ideas of what makes people human.

Even if it is total nonsense! the story loop is so complicated and involves so many hosts, for just one or 2 visitors? Its very existential isnt it, how do we know that the table( or story line) actually exists, if no one can actually see it?
And its a very violent storyline full of guns and baddies and sex, for some of the family groups that appear to be visiting!

I asked the same questions you did. The things you mentioned annoyed me too, but I will stick to it for now, just because I like the whole concept of people being able to do whatever the hell they want to another "human being".

I gave up on this around 20 minutes into the third episode.
Gunfight after gunfight, mostly surplus to requirements and just thrown in for effect and yet you never see a gunfight between humans. I guess they would look too awkward, ending up like a paintball shoot out, so the scriptwriters avoid them altogether but that just makes them more conspicuous by their absence, reminding me I'm just watching a tv show with a major flaw.
Flaws aside, I don't find any of the characters engaging enough to want to follow their journey. Who are the central characters we're supposed to be rooting for? Without such characters as the backbone to a well defined main plot I can't get emotionally involved in this fantasy.

Hmm...so we've learned that the Man in Black is not only rich in the outside world but he's famous too. Runs a foundation that is presumably in the medical industry judging from what that guy said to him about saving his sister. Interesting!

I don't see how the park can continue as it is. They're all becoming sentient, even the bad outlaw bot!

Edit: In our world the park would be shut down if the authorities knew the robots were questioning their existence.

As I posted above Owen, another guy recognised him as the head of a foundation and MiB told him to shut up as he was on vacation. So MiB is clearly a very rich and powerful man in the outside world. A Bill Gates figure. He seems to have known Arnold as well. I wonder if he sits on the board of the corporation which owns the park.

Only if the authorities knew. The park would do everything it could to keep such a serious problem under wraps given it would likely mean closure.

She does not know (yet) she is not real. What she is, is confused. She has vestigial memory of a previous traumatic incident and waking up and trying to escape when being repaired. Until now she thought she dreamt it or was going mad. Now she has been fed the spiritual theory that there are Indian spirits who walk between worlds and can control lives. Of course, she is not the only host to be going through this.

It's all about consciousness and self awareness, I think therefore I am. Plus a traditional mad God complex scientist who has either deliberately or mistakenly possibly created beings who did not originally have independent unique thought and genuine self awareness but are beginning to develop it in an evolutionary way.

It's a very interesting intellectual premise but you can see why Michael Crichton simplified it by changing Westworld to Jurassic Park and having real (but essentially dim) dinosaurs rampaging around rather than very complex automatons with backstories and psychological plot lines interacting with humans with emotions. I do really like it but I wonder how long it can be sustained. It seems to me to require a big reveal and a final resolution to work and that can't be dragged out for years.

I think all indications so far have pointed to the man in black being a human on vacation, but up to something else. No one at the centre has shown much interest him, even when he's been on a rampage. Also, the robots are programmed not to kill humans.
