It's a very interesting intellectual premise but you can see why Michael Crichton simplified it by changing Westworld to Jurassic Park and having real (but essentially dim) dinosaurs rampaging around rather than very complex automatons with backstories and psychological plot lines interacting with humans with emotions. I do really like it but I wonder how long it can be sustained. It seems to me to require a big reveal and a final resolution to work and that can't be dragged out for years.

Its the wild west thats what happens,,the whole point of the visitors holiday is to have shootouts and sex.
WHy would humans want to have a shootout with each other? Do you know anything about this show? It's not that humans would want to have a shoot out with each other, but with so many guests, especially first timers not knowing who is who and looking for confrontations and someone to shoot at, it's bound to happen unwittingly. Or are they supposed to go up to someone first and ask them if they are real before pulling the trigger? Much of the action takes place in a bar, with alcohol available. You're bound to to get humans getting drunk and acting trigger happy. Worse still would be confrontations with other solid object weapons resulting in serious injuries. This is not a Westworld appreciation thread, go and start one if you don't like reading negative comments about the show and don't shoot down those explaining why it doesn't work for them. |

I think that Anthony Hopkins is scarier here than I've ever seen him before (even as Hannibal!) - nobody else does the cuddly old uncle with the cold black heart quite like he does...'shiver'...

I agree that the potential for accidental injury with non-tech weapons such as knives, fists, bar-stools etc. should be an issue when you don't know who are the guests and who are the hosts. That's something that's bothered me even with the original film. Maybe there's a way to tell the difference that we haven't been made aware of yet. |

I do think whether people can recognise each other in some way should have been clarified in the first episode. I recall that little black kid didn't know if Dolores was real or not. |

The guns are futuristic tech. They only fire blanks when aimed at real humans. I believe this was explained at some point.

That's something that's bothered me even with the original film. Maybe there's a way to tell the difference that we haven't been made aware of yet. Maybe it's my fault, not making myself clear. As far as shootouts are concerned I wasn't talking about the safety features. In fact the guns don't fire blanks. There was a scene where a guest got shot by a synth and there was an impact near his shoulder throwing up dust, he felt it. He moved his shirt to the side to reveal a small bruise and said to his friend he thought they weren't meant to get shot and his friend replied it wouldn't be fun if they didn't feel anything (or words to that effect). My point is there are three possible shootout scenarios. 1/ Synth against synth, we see loads of those. 2/ Humans against synths, we see loads of those. 3/ Humans against humans, we never see any. Or did I miss a scene? Can someone point to a scene where this happened? And there is still the possibility of serious blunt force trauma in a fight between guests involving other weapons. |

What happens if a visitor wants to hang out with an outlaw gang of hosts and another wants to be join a sheriff's posse of hosts that is planning to hunt the outlaws down? The climatic gunfight would end with the two human visitors left standing and wondering what they're supposed to do next I would imagine.
I said I would be more positive but if I was the scriptwriter, I would have come up with an early fudge to resolve such issues. |

It came across as if he's creating an intelligent loyal robot army...which ironically is exactly what some interested parties probably want.

I said I would be more positive but if I was the scriptwriter, I would have come up with an early fudge to resolve such issues. In the latest episode We saw the human member of the outlaw gang disarmed and grappled to the ground by a couple of Townsfolk hosts. It was then stated that the Human guest would be thrown in jail overnight before an escape plan was set in motion to get him out. In the situation you mention they would likely have one of the Hosts (posse or outlaw) survive being shot long enough to help their guest capture the other guest. |

The Company knows when a robot has wandered slightly off script but don't see a robot lifting up floorboards and hiding things or pulling bullets out each other!

I think all indications so far have pointed to the man in black being a human on vacation, but up to something else. No one at the centre has shown much interest him, even when he's been on a rampage. Also, the robots are programmed not to kill humans.
And I loved it when the visitor recognised him from the outside world and he replied "I'm on f***ing vacation". Ed Harris always delivers. Hopkins is great in this as well. His conversation with Theresa was quite chilling, basically saying he can do whatever he wants. Now there's a man with a God complex. |

BII - imagine going there and seeing your next-door neighbour shooting up the bar and dragging whores upstairs? (When the last time you saw him, he was mowing the lawn, lol. What do you do - wink, and say, "How's the wife?"?

IIRC the group of Hosts the woodcutter (the one that smashed it's own head in) was from were stuck in a loop for two days (due to him wandering off) before the Staff noticed and went to investigate. So two hosts spending five minutes together in a room or one drawing pictures and hiding them would likely escape notice. |

Here's my theory and its more than likely totally totally wrong. And I came up with this when very drunk.
That it all about Heaven, hell and Earth you have Ford who is God and the workshops are heaven creating the plants, animals Human etc all seeing and know whats going on. Of course you have Westworld that is Earth with his creations who are starting to have thoughts of a higher power having visions of Angels the men in suits even making statues of them to use them in their religion, hear a voice that is the holy spirit Arnold that is guiding them with things like Remember and Kill him. And of course the Maze with hell at the center ruled by the Devil Wyatt. I told you I was very drunk. The man in Black Mose trying to set the people free even A snake in the form of a tattoo. People being crucified and Teddy dying over so people can enjoy their sins. |

Perhaps the "hosts" smell different. They would hardly make them smell of sweat would they?

I would pay to go & partake in some sort of virtual reality set-up where I could be a damsel in distress rescued by the gorgeous Teddy (who unfortunately only briefly appeared in the latest episode, covered in blood to boot).
