I would pay to go & partake in some sort of virtual reality set-up where I could be a damsel in distress rescued by the gorgeous Teddy (who unfortunately only briefly appeared in the latest episode, covered in blood to boot).
Wasn't he also
Spoiler
This makes me think that the story with the two friends is set in the past.

Perhaps the "hosts" smell different. They would hardly make them smell of sweat would they?
I guess that would work.
I dinner party with broccoli and brussel sprouts would soon separate the synths from the humans. I can't imagine a synth coming out of the toilet and saying
"I'd give that ten minutes if I were you."

Rewatched Ep. 4. It seems so wasteful the way the robots get taken out. Surely you would just use a paint ball style tagging system to simulate injuries rather than harm your valuable products.

Not as much fun for the guests though.

That it all about Heaven, hell and Earth(...)
It is soaked in religious metaphors for sure, being a 'creation' story of sorts.
Aside from the Abrahamic & Native American references, there are many Greek mythology allusions - the Company behind the park is 'Delos' ( http://www.sacred-destinations.com/greece/delos ) and the Guest center / operations area atop the Mesa is very much Mount Olympus, from where the Gods would descend to have their wicked way with the mortals...!

ETA: of course, in Westworld the 'Gods' are actually the truly mortal ones...

The current way is dangerous as you could hit something which would make them malfunction and go on an out of control killing spree. I'd have thought it would have been simulated as well with squibs, blood packs etc. Although the current way is true to the original film.

Given that it's second season starts tomorrow night, is it worthwhile comparing Westworld with that other series about artificial Humans?

Missing the point.
It's not that humans would want to have a shoot out with each other, but with so many guests, especially first timers not knowing who is who and looking for confrontations and someone to shoot at, it's bound to happen unwittingly. Or are they supposed to go up to someone first and ask them if they are real before pulling the trigger?
Much of the action takes place in a bar, with alcohol available. You're bound to to get humans getting drunk and acting trigger happy.
Worse still would be confrontations with other solid object weapons resulting in serious injuries.
This is not a Westworld appreciation thread, go and start one if you don't like reading negative comments about the show and don't shoot down those explaining why it doesn't work for them.
I am enjoying the series but this is a good point and one aspect I don't get, they cant know who a fellow guest is or not so as you say you would end up having shootouts with fellow guests, which we never see happening, why? The other aspect is as you have said is what about other weapons, guns maybe safe but what about knives, glass bottles and other objects, there would be nothing stopping one guest injuring another using these, how does the park legislate for this sort of thing potentially happening, is this explained?

I understand why some people aren't getting into this. I felt the same way while watching episode two. I didn't know what was going on, I didn't know who I was supposed to "like" as protagonists. And it all seemed a bit pretentious and fragmented. But, things started to pick up by episode three, and then by episode four I finally "got it". But yeah, I understand why some people might not like it.

(Because they're not intelligent enough to understand it. )

(Lol, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. )

Actually that's a little like someone saying "this show is crap", the inference being, whether implied or not, that anyone who does enjoy it has "crap tastes". Granted, what they probably mean is that "this show seems like crap to me personally." Which is absolutely fine as the world would be super dull if we all liked and agreed on everything. Look, basically just accept different opinions, as they're not always intended to provoke.

Anyways, on to episode four: "Dissonance Theory"

Fantastic episode I thought. The scene with Dr. Ford (Hopkins) and Theresa (Sidse Babatt Knudsen) was equally creepy and chilling. Hopkins was excellent and I like the idea that he's not just the cuddly granpa type like John Hammond in Jurassic Park.

Ed Harris (MIB) was great too, and I actually started to really enjoy the cowboy adventure story within a story. Actually, this episode had lots of good moments, really like how Dolores' expression changed when the guy sent to bring her back grabbed her, very terminator like.

First season is available now, second seasons starts tonight. Very good show overall. And, despite similarities to Westworld, I don't think the two can really be compared given how differently they both approach the subject matter. It would be like comparing Westworld (current tv show) to Terminator 2.

(I imagine comparing the original Westworld movie to the original Terminator movie would be fair, but we wouldn't be, so, you know...)

No it really isn't. Humans appeals to a wider audience, whilst WW isn't quite as accessible. Generally, people are quite dismissive of things they struggle with, and often unjustly critical when they have something more accessible to compare it to.

The essential premise (androids becoming self-aware and how people treat them) is the same, however Westworld is hard Sci-fi whereas Humans is soft.

Stands up : I am Hershey, I am a thicko.....hee hee.

Honestly I have tried with this, I liked the concept, I wanted to like this show but I can't.

I find it, as you say, too fragmented, too much hard work trying to work out and understand what is going on.

So sadly I have pulled the plug on this one.

I'm not finding it too complicated and I'm intrigued by the sub-plots - what is the man in black up to, what is the maze, what is Bernard's plan for Delores, what is Ford planning, what really happened to Arnold?

Anthony Hopkins steals the show as Ford, which isn't surprising, but the rest of the cast are good as well. The characters are becoming more rounded now as well.

It can be a little confusing trying to tell whether someone is a guest or a host, but I think that's intentional. I do suspect that at some point one of the guests will end up being hurt or killed.

I do wonder though why when they know there are glitches in some of the hosts, why would they send Maeve back into the program after she escaped and saw behind the scenes? I know Delores keeps being sent back in, but that is some scheme of Bernard's.

I know, which is why is in itself a reason why they shouldn't be compared to each other.

I was reading that HBO have knocked up a list of disclaimers for the park. It's listed online somewhere. It includes accidental deaths and injuries. From memory stampedes were listed as a possible risk. So in theory hosts or guests could accidentally kill other guests by starting a stampede.
