This show has serious potential and coming from HBO you can be sure there'll be the usual dollop of nudity, cursing and violence. A bit too early to make comparisons with Game Of Thrones I think but it will no doubt gain a strong legion of followers.

Episode One has certainly got me hooked but not sure why we have a US and UK pace threads since wasn't it broadcast on 2nd Oct in both countries?

It is only the first episode, and I agree with you that it was slow.

My only worry with this, is how far it can actually go..to me it seems a one season mini series which would be fine...but cannot seeing it continue as a compelling story after this.

I'd be extremely surprised if Ms Newton went topless/naked in this show but these days with the advent of CGI and SFX it would not been difficult to introduce body doubles to create the illusion.

Unless each season concentrates on one particular aspect of the theme park Westworld, Romanworld, Meadvilleworld etc...

it's weird , if this were a remake for cinema it'd be done PG13 style , but on tv its all tits and bums and swearing , it used to be the other way round in the 70s and 80s .

anyway - I quite liked it , very good performances , looks like they've spent a fair bit on it too .

I'm going to watch the 80s series Beyond Westworld, see if that gives any clues as to where this new series might go.

I'm not sure it would be that worth seeing to be honest. She's very pretty but incredibly scrawny.

They could do that, but what would the story be if they have done malfunctioning robots and the hidden agenda of the higher powers. I feel it would get boring very quickly if they played it out at a slow pace....then again it has got a Nolan attached, and his brother is a expert on slow paced dull films.

This, I think, is the fundamental problem with the whole show. There's really only one possible scenario that ultimately can play out - the robots malfunction and go nuts. Once that happens, the park gets closed down and it's all over. How are they going to string things along for multiple series?

It will all depend on whether they are going to stick to Westworld being about Westworld or whether they will expand into the world beyond the theme park.

Then we are into a show like Caprica/BSG...which it already is starting to feel a little like after one episode.

Oh Bob, come on, show some imagination. There are dozens of scenarios.

1) The androids (not robots) develop into sentient AI and make their own creations.

2) There is an uprising where the slaves revolt, and this is suppressed by the corporation. The story is reported in the 'real' world.

3) One or more of the androids covertly breaks out into the 'real' world and begins to work against the masters.

4) We find that an android has become President of the USA.

5) The chief designer is captured, perhaps by his own intention, and decides to work with the androids for their benefit, convinced that he is god and they are new life.

The possibilities, while admittedly not endless, are so much more varied than your single path.

Episode one of Westworld was conceptually rich and well thought through.

Walking Dead is a simplistic old-fashioned soapy kind of American drama.

How come they haven't found (or noticed missing) the croupier from the bar?

After all, they knew when the androids went wrong, and also knew that the father had whispered something to his daughter, so they are obviously all monitored and tracked, so why not the croupier guy?

Some people clearly only half watch a show, while being distracted on their phones, and then they complain that they can't follow the plot.

I thought it was excellent, largely in part because the casting is very good. Looking forward to episode 2.
