I thought that built on the original story from Michael Crichton brilliantly.
That was already far ahead of its time 43 years ago when Disney were creating theme parks like Epcot and this was a natural extension.
Of course, there was a (sort of) sequel movie Futureworld and Crichton then covered similar themes in Jurassic Park - theme park inhabitants go rogue and kill people.
Another two movies in that saga are on their way to add to the ones we already have so they did not run out of ideas here despite the premise inevitably being fairly similar each time.
If it is done well enough a series about a futuristic theme park could run and run as - just like in Jurassic Park and in real life with Disney - you have to keep coming up with new attractions and new ways of doing things to get the crowds returning.
Especially if you have extra problems Disney don't have to deter customers such as the animatronic pirates making guests walk the plank or the non stop singing characters in It's a Small World driving human beings nuts.
Though maybe that last one is not that incredible.

Yes, but then it becomes a very different story. I,have my doubts about its long term future, but maybe you're right. We'll see, I suppose.
Loved it and looking forward to next weeks episode...and I've never usually given an American series a chance other than Breaking Bad which was sublime 
This isn't my thing. It's far too similar to The Man In The High Castle, Under The Dome and many other what's real/what's imaginary/one central mystery series for my taste.
But I enjoyed the photography of the beautiful Utah scenery.

I was not on my phone, I was watching (as you will see from an earlier post where i advised someone on something they missed), but I obviously missed or didn't understand something, but thanks for clearing it up and letting me know what it was, rather than trying to be all condescending
I watched it last night and enjoyed it. It is a little confusing to start with but it should start to make more sense as the series goes on.

There was the gramophone (or self playing piano) doing a version of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" as well. Loved those little touches.

I suspect this issue will be addressed but from what I gathered they are built like humans, so do indeed have a brain, albeit a programmable one.

In one scene in the "factory" the androids are being manufactured by a 3d type printer. And the android horse is a skeleton which is being fitted out with internal components. I imagine the brain is an AI which is capable of "learning" and recalling past events - like a computer.
I felt they gave away far too much in the opening episode. Simply focusing on the Westworld, with hints that all was not as it seemed would have strung the mystery out a bit longer. The final scene could have been the camera panning up to reveal the people in 'mission control'.
All in all a very good watch though, which reminded me of Wayward Pines quite a bit.

I watched this again this week and probably enjoyed it more than the first time. I'm really enjoying it so far. I thought the opening twist was very clever in that I and many others that have seen the movie will have assumed that Ed Harris is playing 'The gunslinger' and James Marsden, a visitor.

I'm surprised that you're surprised that somebody could class 'The Walking Dead' as a must see. You've pretty well confirmed that it is a 'must see' in your post.
The fact that you have stated that some episodes are 'the worst thing ever shown' makes your argument redundant as they clearly aren't.
And if you have missed a number of episodes - you may think you are - but you're not in the know.

There are actually so many ways they can play with this story, we could easily have Robots leaving Westworld, and needing to be tracked in the real world. I often wonder what the real life situation would be for a robot/AI like the one in Ex machina.
I thought it was a fascinating first episode, and I would like to see the rest of the series
There are lots of actors I am half recognising, and I am loving the links to the Hunger games books. I m assuming it is just coincidental?
We have the Jeffery Wright from the films, as the chief programmer, another Hemsworth brother , (who knew there was another one!) A female lead, and a rebel robot, named Peter Abernathy, combining, Peeta and Haymitch s names.
I really enjoyed that first episode.
However, on the basis of that alone it does seem rather bleak.
Within moments of the show beginning we were already being posed moral and philosophical questions about life and humanity, and within minutes the viewer was already having the rug pulled from under them in horrific circumstances.
I think it has the potential to be a very enjoyable show but, aside from the moments of dark humour, I'm not sure where they're going to create any moments of positivity and happiness (fleeting or otherwise) to offset the overall dark tone.

Obviously not.
But no show can survive being interminably bleak.
Viewers need some reason to invest themselves in the characters, and some semblance of hope among all the gloom. And I'm just wondering where it's going to come from.
Even the possibility of our robot protagonists gaining some sentience comes with its own heartbreak and misery, as we saw in the case of Dolores' father.
By the way, has anybody considered the potential foreshadowing of what appeared to be a throwaway reference to the "judas steer" when Dolores and Teddy were observing the cattle on the range?
The judas steer leads all the other cattle, who follow mindlessly.
It can be manipulated by the herd's owners and others who can identify it, and even leads the cattle to slaughter.
Could Dolores or somebody else end up being the judas steer?
