well this is slow .

I get the impression that the trial will collapse due to some legal error , then Gibson will go after him on her own and they'll have the long confrontation with him revealing his traumas and finally he'll die in her arms as a tear rolls down her face .

I do find it a bit tasteless the way these women are so enamoured of him, I know it happens but it'd be good if one of them would just punch him in the face .

That really annoyed me however not necessarily from a realism perspective but from Gibson's perspective who is all for the victim supposedly but then is happy lying to and misleading the victim and expects her to jyst keep quiet about being in a bed a few feet away from her attacker. Gibson also irritated me with her reaction to Rose discharging herself. If she is ok to leave then Gibson should have been encouraging her to do so.

I suppose it helped with the drama and suspense of it all but nevertheless was very annoying.

Which makes me think he's going to get away with it. Especially if his lawyer is as good as the policeman said.”

Yes I think this was a nice set up for the next stage IE the court room and legal battle which is clearly going to be long and drawn out. I'm really enjoying it too. I prefer it to just seeing ever more attacks on young women.

I actually believed him well took it at face value I suppose. I did laugh at the Doctor lecturing Sally Ann about the dangers of visiting and his mental health but then just letting her stroll in with her daughter who was clearly going to be a huge shock to Paul considering her age. Might it not have been an idea to explain some of this to him beforehand

I must say the whole set up poses one massive moral dilemma. Paul is being cared for at such a huge cost and yet has just mercilessly murdered many young women. Assuming he is found guilty then he will just languish in jail for years at a great cost or worse still he could be found not guilty and then kill again. You can't help thinking that if such a situation actually existed wouldn't it be better to just let the perpetrator die.

I know that could never happen and I don't even agree with it myself but still it is so annoying and depressing seeing so much effort and money going in to save a killer like Paul.

She doesn't fake it but I believe she has said she just falls into whichever of the two accents those around her are using.

So being interviewed in America she sounds American and being interviewed by Parkinson she sounds British.”

Well she must have a split personality then. But I don't think that for a moment. She's an actress and her accent for some strange reason has become suddenly anglisised since she moved back to the UK. Not possible for that to happen naturally. So I think she's faking it.

It's totally possible.

Someone moves away from where they grew up and loses their accent to one degree or another but when they return to the place they spent their childhood they'll often revert back to how they sounded then.

I too was wondering if he's faking the memory loss but even so he can't get away with it as all the evidence is piled against him. Even the so called hot shot lawyer can't get him off surely
But I am looking forward to how it all turns out although I do hope they aren't going to have the whole series with him laying in a hospital bed!

There's no denying it, unless you think she's faking it, then why would she do that?.”

Well ... she's an actress!

She was interviewed with Jamie Dornan on BBC Breakfast before the current series of The Fall went out and she came across as a perfect English Rose!

Fwiw, I doubt this is how things will go.

We're many months away from trial - imo more than a year.

A lot psycho-analysis to start with - him and his motivations, and now this mental blackout; is he even fit to stand trial ... Spector is, of course, a professional in a related field so will be skilled at playing that game.

As far as Stella is concerned, she has the problem of a seemingly fatal attraction, and I'm sure Spector can smell that.

Fwiw, I can't remember if they actually have him bang to rights for murders? They certainly have him for kidnapping now, though the evidence of food in the car (in the lockup) prevents more serious charges.

My brother has lived in Texas for many years and has quite a strong Texas accent. However, when he comes home, within a few days, his Lancashire accent creeps back.

John Barrowman is famous for it.

Gillian Anderson's accent is more British than American but her Stella Gibson voice is different again.

The accent switching thing is something I'm very familiar with and is of course genuine. It's the voice GA chooses to use for The Fall that I cannot cope with. It is so irritating and everyone I know finds it so, why does she choose to talk like that? It adds nothing infact it's a massive distraction.

I agree, can't see it myself, he is a ghastly little runt. Colin Morgan, on the other hand, is a totally different kettle of piscatorial delights, S Gibson must need her eyes/sensibilities testing

Really? Personally I find that it adds gravitas to the things she says and makes a nice change from much of the shouty stuff that goes on elsewhere. Stella Gibson is not a verbally demonstrative character, but she's a damn fine detective and a motivational leader of her team.

I always record the show and watch it later, with the sound channelled through the hi-fi and into my headphones. I also have the room suitably darkened to get the full effect of the drama. Stella's voice is no problem at all when heard in this way.

Fwiw, I don't find it a distraction - plenty of working class professionals modulate their accents with greatly varying success. We have no idea of Stella's background.

Is Spector faking? Impossible to tell at the moment - in terms of his age / DOB that means the series is actually set in around 2011 yes??”

I wondered if she was an unknown earlier victim of his? Didn't they find some stuff in the lock-up that pointed to more victims, she may have recognised him?

I agree with a review I read that you forget how good an actor Jamie is - the scene where he was talking to his daughter and really confused about everything was acted brilliantly.

I've just got my new TV mag and for next week's episode details it includes

'..Including the medics who even allow him - somewhat unwisely - to prowl the hospital corridors unfettered'

Is this a crime drama or some fantasy farce?! I wondered why he didn't have an armed guard outside his room last week. The fact he didn't was ridiculous enough, but this! Letting the 'Belfast Strangler' wander round where he pleases?! Stupid.

They've just lost their way on this series. Puts me off watching, really, the more ridiculous stuff I see/read.

Maybe Stella will take him home and look after him, next? Or maybe they'll let Katie be his personal maid?

It's a shame, really. The first series was brilliant. As someone said, maybe they should have left it there. Added another episode to close the thing completely.

I think he might be faking the memory loss. I thought it was quite odd that he couldn't tell the doctor how old his daughter was but answered everything else with ease. It's like he couldn't quite do the math quickly enough and simply said 'she's small'.

They keep lingering on the ICU nurse so obviously there's something going on there/or will happen there but I don't know that I'd say she's grown attached to him like other posters have suggested. I've seen first hand how attentive ICU nurses are with their patients and they talk to them as if they are awake/aware even when in an unresponsive state. She's clearly his type however and I think we're all wondering if he's going to suddenly jump out of bed and attack while her back is turned!

Does anyone else think a lot of the young women in this program look really similar? I could have sworn the same actress was playing the wife and the young lawyer only with a different hairstyle!

More Tom Anderson I say!

Does the ICU nurse (Aisling Bea) work 24 hours a day. Doesn't seem to be any other nurse looking after him !

She may help him escape.
