Agree. Numpties don't seem to understand she is 'acting' within the confines of a character.
The same type of numpties 'believe' soap stars are 'real' and have been known to verbally abuse the actors in 'real life' based on their on screen characters and soap storyline.

Am I a numpty for feeling irritated by that annoying whisper that she employed throughout? If so, I'm in the very best of company as everyone else I know in real life was irritated by it too, we all wanted to clear her throat for her.

Absolutely correct. This has been happening since the advent of acting and theatre. There are those who for whatever reason are not able to differentiate between real life and acting. Actors will get stopped in the street and asked where their 'on screen' partner/wife etc. is.

Perhaps you could change 'numpties' to 'intellectually challenged' though I get where you're coming from.

Basically agree with you, I couldn't help thinking that she spoke to everyone as if they'd just finished having rampant sex together, it was so annoying, if this how she was supposed to read/act the part, in my opinion, it was totally unnecessary.

Agree with this, you had the foreboding during the entire dialogue but then just when you thought it was going to lead to nothing, BAM!

It's rare i ever go back and watch crime shows. But i feel this is one of those that is worth rewatching to see certain plots and dialogue link up from all three seasons. To see it all unfold in long large sitting.

Yes, 'intellectually challenged' is probably more flattering as 'numptie' suggests an element of stupidity.
I realise that nobody would be stupid enough to watch all six episodes in Series 3 if they had decided from the very beginning that they did not like Gillian Anderson's acting, Stella's mannerisms and the way she spoke.

Oh, gosh, so I'm intellectually challenged too, all because I decided to gird my loins and carry on watching because I was hooked by the story. Ah well, I can live with that

I think it was clear: he flipped and lost his cool when he knew he had been rumbled. He would have been taken to court for the murder/death in London he couldn't deny and he knew he'd been had. He was a bad loser.

That's why good actors are great actors. The try to find something in themselves and bring it out. And they always say playing baddies is much better fun.

Me five...that finale was superbly done. It is definitely worth watching a second time, the first time I was too shocked by that sudden raw outburst of violence - it was only while watching it again that I realised the extent of Stella's verbal demolition work, she utterly destroys him in the space of no more than 3 minutes. It is only then that you fully understand how much he repulses her, and boy he certainly doesn't expect/like being called an attention seeking little boy.

It wasn't perfect and some things did grate - for me Stella's hair became far too distracting after a while. How can you run around in such a bleak, gritty drama with Dynasty hair that never moves a millimetre out of place

The lack of security in the psychiatric unit (Spector had just violently attacked 2 police officers!) - sorry, I didn't buy that either.

Minor stuff though, overall I found this final series a fascinating insight into "The aftermath", it's what we usually never get to see. And presumably far too boring for viewers who prefer action packed scenes every five minutes

I'm the opposite. If it's so poorly executed that I can't be bothered to watch it, I don't really care what happens in the end. It's all about the journey, not the destination

What kept me hooked was the on screen presence of the two main protagonists.

I agree - I can't stand her whispering but I noticed when she used a little bit of force her voice was cracked. I think she may have some serious vocal problems. I was trained as a voice coach for actors mainly but we were taught about some physical problems (among them the sound of cancer of the larynx) and how to spot the symtoms. I think she may have quite a problem with her vocal folds (cords) so it's made me wary of being too critical!

Some people complain about this series because they say "nothing happened" - what do they mean by that ? This was about the police working to get a evidence for a conviction and deal with his amnesia claims. Would these bored people have preferred him to escape and kill more victims or perhaps go on a killing spree round the hospital ?

An utterly brilliant and mesmerizing series and excellent final episode. The interplay between Anderson and Dornan's character's was wonderfully realised and the final right hook from Gibson as she whispers that all Spector really wants is attention when little demands our undivided attention more than a quietly spoken voice was genius.

I really hope for more of The Fall and Anderson and Dornan need to be picking up some awards in the coming year for this.

A number of shows are "journey not destination" for me so I get that. This one I just wanted to know the ending so I probably should have skipped eps 2 to 5 after Casualty Goes to Belfast in Episode 1. You live and learn

Did anybody else not miss the character of Belfast from the last series? Yes the accents were still there and the location shots, but that vibrant character and backdrop which made the programme special was absent.

Well it had me on the edge of my seat all the way through and I loved Gillian Andersons portrayal of Stella Gibson. Brilliant acting from everyone.

Happy Valley, Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders, Ripper Street (thinking of Jerome Flynn) and The Fall - the BBC will have so many contenders for best actor or actress from that little lot.

Tough, tough competition.

Anderson and Dornan are both superb actors and I really hope that Jamie gets some far better roles in the future than that 50 Shades of Tosh cobblers.

I enjoyed S 1-2 but S3 for me was all filler until that last episode.
I remember in one episode in S3 there was 4 different views of cars arriving at the court for the interview with Spector, i mean come on,S3 was just dragged out till that final episode.A few of the EPs i thought i was watching Casualty.

I think what has become clear reading the many posts in this thread is that this final series was cerebral rather than slash crash bang and wallop.

For those of us who appreciate the wonderful depths of the cerebral, which explores the psyche of the human condition this was a feast.

For those viewers for whom cerebral is something they're just not capable of understanding then sadly it is their loss.
