Will a daily dose of metacam be okay for a short term period for my cat?

I think she has an UTI. The vet didn't say that specifically, but she matched all the symptoms. She just said something about a bacterial infection.

Prescribed metacam, which I read some horror stories about, but it's only for a while.

It'll be okay won't it?

I'm glad it helped your dog. I already have the tablets, I just wanted to make sure it's okay to take them. Hopefully its okay, I have read some people who said it wasn't, ie caused kidney failure.

CORRECTION - it's not tablets, we're injecting it into her food.

I think it's ok in the short term but in the longer term it can damage the stomach lining. Most drugs have the potential to affect the liver and metacam is no exception but if the vet thinks your cat needs it I would give it but just watch for anything like an upset tummy or being off her food and if you have any concerns go back to the vet. All of our dogs have had it several times for various reasons.

Hope she's ok very soon.

Yeah, I think we'll just give her the short term tablets/liquid.

Thanks, would you say, despite it being very little info given, she'll most likely be okay, both UTI and metacam wise?

I had an older dog who had trouble walking due to pain on it for the last 4 years of his life. Made his life easier/painfree, and even though it probably did damage his kidney in the end, he got to the age of 15.
I had to outway the pro's and cons'.

Yeah, that's understandable and at least it was painfree for a while for him.

Because my cats only on it short term wise, do you think there's a chance liver/kidneys will be okay?

Short term should be ok. Even a couple of month I would say. As I said it taken 4 years to do damage for my dog.
Your cat should be fine.

Yes, she should be fine on it. Hopefully the UTI will clear up quickly and she won't need it. How's she doing?

She's been okay for a few days.

Today she threw it up after taking metacam. So now I'm worried again.

My dogs have done that, don't worry just stop it. It may be a sign it's just starting to irritate her tummy but she should be fine. Of course it could be a random coincidence but I wouldn't give any more. Wouldn't have thought she really needed it now anyway. Does she seem better?

Be extremely wary of Metcam in cats, especially older ones.

It is very toxic to their kidneys especially over a period of time.

I would take her back to the vet and get them to check her kidney function.
