I seen lots of people say how much they love him and think he's a great character but I have to ask why?

I don't find him likeable at all. He comes across as a fake nice guy who is everybody's friend but deep down he's selfish and doesn't care about anyone.
Lets look at Les and Pam. When he found out about the blackmailing he should've forced Babe to pay it back but instead just ignores it and doesn't even apologise.
Then we have the whole Sylvie fiasco. He can't be arsed looking after her and expects other family members to do so and last night he complained about Sonia dumping Tina which I thought was ridiculous despite the fact his lack of help caused it.

What I also didn't like last night was when he had a go at Sharon. She's dealing with a sick husband and he complains because she isn't practising a stupid game of darts which is the last thing on her mind.

Now looking at all it makes Mick Carter a very unlikable character and I don't get the fuss over him.

I used to like him, I remember how sensitive & kind he was to Johnny when he first came out as gay. Now he has gone all judgmental his actions towards Jay were wrong, & I have gone off him. He has become a hypocrite.

His treatment of Nancy over Ollie's accident was horrible too especially when he tried to pay her to leave.

I would prefer a nasty villain over a slimy snake who pretends to be nice anyday.

The producers need to destabilise his character by having Linda cheat on him with a health professional who is very sympathetic about Ollie's developmental issues. Mick should start shrugging off her concerns and saying this child development specialist they are paying privately is too expensive. The guy should be middle class and pretty suave, the opposite of Mick.

I agree. I like both mick and Danny.

Saying that the writing for mick has been abysmal of late

Yes lots of people do. Social media went mad when it was reported (just a rumour) that he'd be leaving with Kellie Bright.

I just find Mick 'there' if you know what I mean. I don't find him a strong character at all because he hasn't actually had any proper development. The bulk of his scenes are either telling everyone to tip toe around Linda or forgiving Babe for yet another scam. That is basically all he does. As boring goes Mick is very boring and its for that very reason that the show wouldn't miss him at all if he left.

"One of the lads innit"

I don't see the appeal personally. Doesn't seem a nice man.

This is sort of how I feel too. Its better to ask what would the show lose if Mick wasn't there?

The answer is very little. If it wasn't Danny Dyer playing him the character would have no appeal.

I think that fans of Mick like him for a couple of reasons, the first being that Danny Dyer is very charismatic and plays Mick solidly and safely. He puts in very dependable performances and though he's not the strongest actor in the cast, he is incredibly consistent. The second reason is that people like the idea of Mick the family man, who is on the surface incredibly supportive of his wife and kids. It's only when you start to look at that more closely that you realise how problematic Mick has been this year. He really needs to be challenged on his behaviour so that he can be allowed to grow as a character.

The only problem I've had with Mick until recently is that he was just too perfect so I welcome the fact that we're seeing some flaws. We're all selfish, we're all hypocrites and we all make mistakes. He's much more human now. Why would he want a confessed sex offender in his pub after what happened to his wife and why would he want anything to do with a grandma that ruined his mother's life. He's already had Stan dumped on him by Tina but at least he knew him.

This. If he left tomorrow what gap would he leave? None as far as I can see. He fusses around Linda ad nasuem and gets on his moral high horse over Jay having slept with Linda when she was underage himself. Also he forgave Babe very easily for blackmailing and almost bankrupting the Cokers. So I just don't see what there is to like.

Mick was strongest in his first year when he had the novelty of Danny Dyer being in EE playing against type and being head of a huge new family seeded with stories and the fabulous Tim West. It's inevitable that the shine would wear off after 3 years of stories that ultimately turned out to be generic retreads of old ones but I don't mind him. I wouldn't miss him if he went but I can see he brings a fan base to the show.

Used to like him at the start when he was a decent bloke, but then he started to get more and more interfering and he winds me up so much. I hated him when he went to Sonia's and started scoffing sandwiches, no manners at all! Why on Earth can't he look after Sylvie? He was one of the ones who actually wanted contact with her and even brought her to his wedding IIRC. He is just selfish and should be helping out a lot more.

People like who they like and dislike who they don't... why should they have to justify it?

I really liked him during his first year. He wasn't perfect (he was not at all keen to take Stan on given their history and even went so far as to dump him on the side of the A13 in a wheelchair, although of course he did return for him) and there was always an undercurrent of him having a violent temper but he was basically a kind man, not just to his family but also strangers.

I liked that he had a sense of humour, helped people, was moral andfunny and had a strong marriage and relationship with his kids and siblings and was prepared to look after his parents (remember he was lovely with Sylvie first few times he met her), despite them having failed him when he was a child.

But it all started going wrong from the moment of the reveal of the rape and Shirley being his Mum.

I know others will protest that he didn't, but I think he repeatedly placed maintaining a relationship with Shirley and her feelings over Linda but I can see it was a very difficult situation.

He's been really unbearable this year though. Obviously favoring Lee over Nancy with things like buying him a car and taking Whitney's side in their argument. Then blaming Nancy for Ollie's accident. I seem to recall he was very horrible to Elaine at one stage, who yes can be a pain in the arse but gave him a home and a job for years and years and appears to have been more of a Parent from the point he got together with Linda than Stan, Sylvie and Shirley put together. Shrugging off Babe baby farming just because she decided she cpuldn't sell him. Shrugging off Babe blackmailing the Cokers, not even telling her she needed to pay the money back? His attitude to Jay (he knows that Star looked old enough to have been in the poub without any of his staff querying her age so why cank( he give Jay the benefit of the doubt re not having known? Before anybody says "because he pleaded Guilty" so did Mick to kerb crawling to get the case over with quickly and quietly when he was innocent. And, he was sleeping with (having a baby with in fact) Linda when they were both underage. His attitude towards Sonia is disgusting. Fair enough if he doesn't want to take care of Sylvie but be a man and tell Tina that he and Linda aren't prepared to help at all so she knows where she stands?

He's just turned horrible.

Dyer does remain a very charismatic man though so that helps a lot. There have been a few people over EE's history that do just have that screen presence and he is one of them imo, even though his acting is limited to say the least.

Couldn't believe he had the nerve to complain about Sonia dumping Tina! What, is Sonia supposed to stay with someone she doesn't love just to look after her girlfriend's sick mother because her and the Carters are too bone idol to help out? The most idiotic thing I've heard in a long while.

That's probably true. I like Danny Dyer, even though I know he's a bit of a tw*t and I probably shouldn't.

Great name by the way
