Car audio conversions

Not strictly mobile related but just picked up a rather nice Mazda 5 yesterday and it has a standard CD / Radio but no Bluetooth and as far as I can see no front inputs although I've not had a proper look yet. We have (or will have when the second one arrives) iPhone SEs and will be getting a decent active holder, probably Bodit.

How do folk go about getting hands free calls and possibly streaming in a car with no physical inputs and no Bluetooth?

Solutions seem to go from cheap FM transmitters and separate hands free kits to full sort of dash conversions with it all built in. I've looked at a few like the Pioneer car play but not really sure what I'm after.

I use an FM transmitter in my car as all I have is a tape deck

I also have a Tape to AUX convertor which works quite well, not that that applies to you.. or probably anyone else anymore

It would have applied to me yesterday as our run around was an emergency buy cheapo Honda Jazz after our VW ate it's own turbo at high speed on the M5. Great little car really but you can only stand 4500 revs at 70MPH for so long........

Parrot kits, or other third party kit?

I've never been a fan of clip-on type kits in the past, but I do like hard-wired Parrot kits..

If it's a standard single-DIN CD/radio setup I'd also look at simply swapping this for a new one with Bluetooth built in. You'll need a microphone to be wired in for hands-free of course - although I think some have the microphone built in to the head unit. I have a fairly cheap Pioneer single-DIN unit in my current car that does the job perfectly well.

This is the one I use, it uses Bluetooth but can also use AUX and you can insert USB drives or SD cards with music on them.

Avoid the cheap ones they fall to bits and stop working in no time especially if they have a captive audio lead. I can recommend the Satechi devices which cost a bit more but are solidly built and work well.

Try changing up !!
I've driven 2 Jazzs and neither used more than two and a half to three thousand revs at 70 !

Never really use it for calls, but no, I don't think there's a mic, and even if there was mine is tucked down near my feet so wouldn't be very effective. Wouldn't rely on it for calls.
