Purely because the EP at the time spoke at a LGBT event and decided he was introducing a trans character. That appears to have been where the thought stopped!

Appalling way to treat both the actor and the character.

Personally, I think they should have taken their time, found the right person and worked on creating a decent character before they hit the screen then built on it.

I don't think Riley was a very good actor so I am glad he hasn't been used too much but EE gave him the job and should have taken the time to build his character and hope that with experience he got better. Unfortunately they couldn't even be bothered to do that.

When you compare Hollyoaks introduction of Sally which was around the same time, you can see the vast vast difference between the acting abilities of the actors and also how well hollyoaks have created the character of Sally.

Perfect post. It's absolutely disgusting the way they've failed such an important issue which they were all too happy to publicise and self-congratulate themselves on when he was first cast.

Exactly, I know everyone slates Hollyoaks for being OTt and sensationalist but on this occasion they did the complete opposite of EE, no fan fare, no self congratulating and they have produced a much better result
