I just strongly dislike that style of Music, it's just really slow, boring Music with the singer talking through the performance with no lyrical flow whatsoever imo, hence why alot of the talented singers on this show struggle to standout on the nights that they're done.

A genre night I would love to see is Reggae night and see if any of the acts can prove me wrong and pull off a decent cover of a Reggae song within their own style.

I'm not defending her in any way whatsoever as she does not appeal to me at all, but the term 'fake' can probably be applied to every single contestant who applied for the X factor. It is show business and everyone is basically trying to sell themselves/tryin to make themselves more appealing to the public. Honey G has made a pretty over the top gimmick, but I don't think shes the only one who is being fake. Actually I think that is maybe one of the reasons why so many X factor acts get forgotten once they are signed because they try so hard to portray themselves as Mr/Ms nice so everyone will like them and while doing this they lose touch with their true self and waste too much energy on trying to maintain being that person that they are actually not. Maybe I am wrong but that just hit my mind.

I couldn't disagree more but that's what opinions are about.

There is a reason why big band/swing music has remained popular for 60 years and still sells now. For me, some of the best ever XF performances have come in big band week. I'd certainly rather that theme rather than Abba/Queen or some of the other nonsense they come up with.

And, for me, reggae is musical torture. Its up there with country and rock and roll on my list of 'I'd rather have my teeth pulled than listen to'

Theme nights should be scrapped all together as they are a complete and utter waste of time. The contestants should be allowed to sing what genre of music that they are best at.

i thought the one thing they did get right last year was the themes

all of the themes used meant the contestants could sing any style or genre they wanted, it was just the poor song choices by the producers that was the recurring issue

everyone keeps moaning about the themes but there wasn't a single theme used last year that forced the contestant to sing anything outside of their preferred genre

with the focus this year supposedly on bringing back the "glory days" of the show i wonder if they will continue with the generic themes or go back to things like "big band" or disco"

i would not concentrate the blame on her but really on producers.
i mean if they offered a place to someone who can't sing everyone would accept, would you say no? even if you know you can't sing (and i bet she knows that)

I think they should do away with the themes now, they made them more generic so acts could stick to their style - but to the point where they are now unnecessary. And themes such as 'Numbers 1s' and 'Halloween' and just tired now.

i disagree, they give the show some structure and when you have 10 weeks of live shows it needs that sort of structure imo, even if they do get rid of the themes it still doesn't solve the problem of crap song choices and trundling out the same old songs every year

getting rid of themes at this point is nothing more really than dealing with a symptom of the problem and ignoring the underlying cause

I have taught and performed both genres, and can say with certainty that ,at its best. big band is far more vocally challenging in every way than reggae(which I am not knocking, and also love!), not to mention most other genres. The real reason so many singers struggle is that with few exceptions they lack the voices and skill to do big band the way it was meant to be done. They tend to go for karaoke Sinatra/Nine Simone impersonations rather than busting out with their take on a Ella arrangement or Round Midnight in a way that'd make Coltrane grin.Granted, many also lack the kind of deep connection and style needed to pull off a good reggae cover as well.

Yep. It doesn't matter what the themes are anyway, they'll find a way of shoehorning the same old tired songs that get churned out year in, year out.

Having no themes would mean some poor acts would end up doing the entire Whitney/Celine songbook in a sparkly ballgown every week until Christmas.
