I didn't watch the show so my knowledge of is is all 2nd hand, I may be wrong but I believe the reason Cain wasn't charged over the kidnap of Tom King and theft of thefamily fortune was because he gave evidence against some big time international criminals ( it would be a suspension of disbelief to get away with such a huge crime himself but I guess you have to allow for creative license).

If this is correct why did he not have to go into police hiding with a new identity? And also surely coming back to the dingle family would put all of them in danger.

It was a jump the shark moment to get Cain back on the show after a pretty final exit.

EastEnders had to do the same thing (come up with an implausible explanation) with Phil Mitchell when he was up on armed robbery charges.

I think he had used a false identity when in Spain, to hinder police attempts to find him. Maybe the soap police don't t know about witness protection

There are many moment in soaps were we have to suspend our disbelief Like a market stall holder affording a multiple bedroom house in London lol (Eastenders)

Or Gail Platt' s luck with husbands

Yeah, this plot really reached stretched credulity. No way the police would've handed Cain a get out of jail free card like that, no matter who he was testifying against. His crimes were too serious. There was not only the small matter of kidnapping Tom King, holding him at gunpoint and extorting millions out of the King family, but the fact that he did all that whilst out on bail, after confessing to euthanizing Sam's wife Alice. He then skipped the country. But the police were willing to let all of that go, apparently. Lol, OK then.

It was a great exit originally, but they could've put a bit more effort into his return.

The people Cain grassed up were part of a paedophile ring, which answered why he did it and also why there was not much fear of reprisals. He was given a free pass on the Tom King matter and one other possible charge in the future, Which he used up shortly after returning but I can't remember what now. It was never spelled out in great detail, more implied in a conversation with another character.

How on earth would cain have info on a peadophile ring unless he was part of it, surely this post is a joke? I know soaps can be daft but the police would never say you are allowed to do a freem crime but after that no more.

I don't t think they ever specified what the criminals had done. I remember him saying something to Debbie about how their actions had disgusted him. There was something weird about immunity though. When Eli raided an empty house and stripped it's fittings, Cain took the blame, and Katie's s copper boyfriend had to let him off with it.

Is this one of them cases where the writer though " damn, I can't think of anything that sounds realistic so let's leave it really ambiguous and turn the audio down a lot also have the actors mumble the explanation and have background noise at the same time"

I don't buy Cain having anything to do with a peadophile ring so I do t buy he could give info on one, also if it's a time that disgusts him we can rule out here theft and violence. Their his two favourite hobbies. I bet he was in a gang like something from the movie taken, that'll be his exit Liam Neeson coming to fu#$ him up

Yes, it has to be something worse than kidnapping and elementary torture. I' m guessing Kray level violence, although I could see him finding out that some of his associates were involved in a paedo ring, being sickened by that, and gathering enough info to punish them in some way.

It's the good old soap style Monopoly board, with the get out of jail free card, I'm sure on Eastenders at one point Phil must have been printing the things with the crimes he got away with.

When Cain came back Andy was suspicious and said something like "You've got a secret and I'm going to find out what it is"

But he never did.

I'd forgotten that.

It was a stretch enough that the police swept everything aside with the Kings but giving Cain a free pass to commit another crime was beyond ludicrous.

I was thinking about this too, silly really.

They just needed a way to get Cain back.
