Have to say I was cheering on Sonia tonight.

You know, I've never been a Sonia fan. But good on her tonight. Shirley was bang, BANG, out of order.

How dare Shirley accuse Sonia of running away and leaving others to pick up her mess? That's Shirley summed up in a nutshell, and it's why she's been left a bitter, old woman. Sylvie is not Sonia's responsibility, and she should never have been. But that's Carters in a nutshell - everyone has to dance to their tune. They're a selfish bunch of people, and don't like being told so.

So yeah, I enjoyed that. But everything else...

Les and Pam. Now, this storyline has been beyond farcical ever since those imbeciles managed to kidnap Ben and Jay and get scared off by a 50 odd year old Grunt Mitchell and his Next Model son, and tonight it continues it's farce. Oh, I get it. The ring leader is a little coward who's used to getting his own way and cannot face the consequences of his actions. No doubt his mother has spoiled him rotten since birth.

However, I thought Pam had a bloody cheek tonight. Throughout this whole thing, it's been all about her grief. Hell, when they lost their son, it was all about her. Les was never allowed to grieve, because he had to constantly tip toe around her. It's what created Christine in the first place. And now that Les is finally showing emotion to the killers of his beloved grandson, she berates him for it, instead of giving him the love and support he needs (and has given her). All to facilitate the return of said Christine. I dunno... these characters are leaving, and I can't say I'll miss them.

Anything else? Ah, of course, there's TWO baby plots going on at the moment. Good thing too. We've not had enough of them recently. By recently, I mean since DTC came back and immediately started impregnating every woman/teenage girl on the square. Denise's plot is beyond ridiculously annoyingly rubbish, and I stopped caring about Whitney circa 2008.

Not a good time for a new Producer to be coming in. The cracks underneath the leadership of DTC are now very visible. But I will say this: I don't disagree with a single axing thus far. And still have my fingers crossed for more.

She was great tonight.

Pam is insufferably selfish, no wonder Les sought comfort in a lacy camisole.

I enjoyed that.

Loved the Sonia and Shirley row, as did Dee.😁

Les and Pam scenes were great despite the unfortunate wording at the end.

The actor playing Bex has improved no end.

Just a nice everyday episode with some very stark subtleties such as how Pam and Les were both conveying emotion differently when wiping the table. I'm really enjoying it for some reason.”

Yes, it feels more character driven. I'm glad the plea hearing was shown. It's also good to see Jennie Darnell back directing.

That scene JUST MIGHT have made her whole tiresome comeback worthwhile. Son may well be a self-righteous bore, but Shirl is a bitter old rat who needs slappin dahn!

Anyone else notice a difference in tonight's ep? the scene with Lauren and Whitney especially where they were just talking about everyday stuff and doing everyday stuff.

It was weird that Whitney ignored Lauren and kept talking when she was asked when Ryan was getting out.

Sonia vs Shirley with Denise enforcing the argument was one of the rare scenes which actually made me laugh Finally Sonia had a great scene and was telling Shirley what we were all thinking about the Carters, regarding Sylvie.

I wonder when we will next see Christine - I don't think she will go outside like to the court.

I really enjoyed tonight's episode and I was surprised to hear it was Carey Andrews' episode because she has written some abysmal episodes in the past but tonight she did a fantastic job. Where do I begin?

The Cokers' storyline is still heartbreaking and I really feel for Pam and Les because they want justice for Paul and it wasn't particularly nice for them to see Paul's killers in court. I thought Pam and Simon's mum scene in the toilets were understated and I liked the way Pam was comforting Simon's mum but when Pam found out her true identity, the way Lin acted Pam's disgust/horror was wonderfully acted. It was a powerful scene and it must have been awkward for her to see a defendant's mother in court. Pam and Les are still facing some tough times but I agree with Pam's assertion they need Christine especially Les because he's still struggling with Paul's tragic death and Christine can make him feel better/help him with his grieving process.

Sonia was the standout character in this episode and the writers have done a sterling job making her really likeable and she's a good mother and friend. It's a pity that Tina and Sonia have split up but Sonia made the right decision because she doesn't love Tina anymore and needs to spread her wings elsewhere in Kettering but I am supporting Sonia's decisions. I loved the confrontation scene between Shirley and Sonia and I thought Natalie and Linda knocked it out of the park and the dialogues were brilliantly written. Shirley's home truths were harsh but it's typical Shirley and today was one of those days for her and she was in a grumpy mood. Sylvie is very erratic and difficult and it's a full time job looking after her. She needs professional help and she should be living in a care home or the Carters should hire a carer. Sonia's outburst to Shirley was wonderful to watch onscreen because the Carters (shame it was only Shirley outside) needed to hear Sonia's home truths about the way they treated her and Sylvie, also it was a wakeup call for them, and I hope Shirley takes on board with Sonia's comments. Her line, 'I hope she bites you' made me howl. I'm sorry to see Sonia leave for a while but I'm pleased for Natalie and I wish her well.

Can't abide Pam. How dare she accuse Les of shutting her out when she was the one who shut herself in the bedroom and refused to talk to him. The poor man's been walking on eggshells for weeks.

Forgot to mention this but I was chortling at Martin's facial expressions during Sonia and Shirley's row. James Bye is a terrific actor.

Poor bloke. Can't do right for doing wrong. She's quite spiteful under the nice exterior.

Oh god, I knew as soon as I saw her that that woman Pam met was a mother to one of Paul's killers. How horrible.

Put. Silvie. In. A. Home.

Sonia laying down the law to Shirley was a Legendary scene!
Felt this literally could've been Sonia's last scene [other than a last-minute reconciliation between her and Bex] too actually.

What, what, what was that Pam? You're ok with Christine now. Could've saved you both a lot of grief this year if you'd just said that before...

I think people need to realise grief affects peoples emotions in different ways. Pam and Les are obviously and upset and angry with the death of their grandson, and they probably don't know how to feel. The gang do look an X-Factor boyband with the tesco Value Olly Murs Very powerful performances from Lin and Roger. It's natural he would be angry in the court house, and I think he needs to bring Christine back. The fall-out is affecting their relationship.

Good on Sonia having a go at Shirley in the Square. Martin's face a picture. It's about time someone told her straight. She should be looking after her own Mum, it's not Sonia's responsiblity. I got to admit Sonia is a good person even if she does annoy people. I prefer her stand alone. However, I do feel for Bex. Her life is upside down due to her Mum leaving and she just wants to be with her. I do hope some sort of compromise can be worked out.

Bingate - at least they're highlighting reality - blame, the stupid government cuts for it. I can see where Lee and Whitney are at wanting their own place. They're grown adults about to be parents ffs! Cut the apron strings. Sadly the ridiculous price of renting is true - I'm looking at moving to Bristol and the rents they are astronomical. How are people expected to start out in life?

Good episode, can't wait for tonight. 8/10

Great post. I just feel lost with Les and Pam. Pam has been a total cow for weeks, shutting Les out which is what forced him to bottle things up in the first place. And then, suddenly on Monday night, it's Les kicking off and Pam chiding him for shutting HER out 'because it's rude'? It's absolutely nonsensical. The whole Christine narrative may be plausible and original, but it's just too weird and obscure. Personally I think Les is a very strange man, and Pam's character is written all over the place, even though Lin Blakley is a good actress. At first I was a bit saddened when it was announced they'd been axed. Now I feel less so. I can see they've been written into a corner, and that crappy Christine narrative will always overshadow any development they could have.
