Looking for a good camera phone

I've had a Moto G 2014 model for the last couple of years, and recently bought a Moto G 3rd Gen from last year as it was supposed to have a much better camera. The original phone was good but was only 5 or 8 megapixels while the new one is 13, however I'm not all that satisfied with it.

Basically it doesn't seem much of an improvement, or at least enough of one to be able to take good pictures of things like sporting events and concerts which is what I'm after. I was at the tennis and took some but it looked like I was miles further away than the naked eye, I'm looking for something that makes that gap a lot smaller, if you follow.

Is my only option to get an expensive phone on contract (my new Moto G was only £100) and what would it offer me that is so much better fr taking pictures?

If you are happy with your moto g then it may not be worth getting on a expensive contract just to have a better camera phone. The situations you are taking pictures in (sporting events and concerts) are testing for most camera phones. A £100-120 point and shoot camera could be better for you.

More pixels doesn't necessarily mean it's a better camera. Don't be fooled into that old line of thinking.
Lens type, speeds, software, flash etc all combined are things to take into account.

I'd second that, my daughter had a second gen Moto G and bought a Moto X Play just on the strength of the camera after playing with my phone for 10 minutes.

The only decent cameras I have seen on smart phone are on the Samsung s6 and s7.

They make my iphone 6 camera look likes its come out of a cracker.

In your original post you say you want to make things see less smaller -- that means a more telephoto lens. The new iPhone 7plus has 2 lenses - one is 2x closer, but that's an expensive option, and tbh the recommendation of a seperate camera is a decent one.

Even with a DSLR taking photos at sporting events can be tricky. need the right lens, often expensive, good position etc... sometimes it's better to just enjoy the event live and savour the memories
