We've been awaiting the latest big true to life storyline from EastEnders. We know the show treats such issues delicately and doesn't hide from the tough questions.

I really felt for Les tonight and his confusion with the bins. I thought the trauma in Les's face was very shocking, and I really bought into the frustration of not knowing what rubbish goes into each bin. Did anyone else feel haunted by tonight's episode?

Walford - the last local authority in the country to make people recycle.

Knock it all you like, BinGate is probably the most interesting storyline at the moment (although I must admit that the Cokers' story is heartbreaking)

Pretty on the noise storyline as far as I'm concerned. Where we live (Ealing) people are up in arms about huge bins and recycling bins in tiny residential streets!

Bit unfair, the storyliners have been doing it for years!

It's a topical subject. Only last Saturday night a drunken yoof walked straight into my neighbour's wheelie bin at 1am. He even apologised to it

didn't they do this in corrie a few weeks ago too if i remember correctly?

except they were told by the weatherfield council to leave their rubbish in bags outside the front door instead of using the bins in the ginnel

fascinating stuff

Yes, they all seem a little fascinated by rubbish collection

It was quite funny I thought. We'e had recycling bins here for several years now, so whilst I appreciated Les's comments (it's always good to raise awareness of Bin Dysphasia) I couldn't help but think he was stuck in a time warp.

I think Bingate is a lot more harrowing than Dartsgate, but this story hasn't had a Bitchy-Cassandra from Only Fools and Horses in it yet. I can imagine her making some snide comment to Les.

It really is scrapping the barrel at the moment. I hope SOC can do better than this.

Maybe Raquel-Only Fools can come in as a strict bin Czar policing the community?

So let me clarify...are they annoyed that the general bins (for non recyclable waste) are only getting emptied once a month? So is Walford Council trying to get them to recycle in between that?

My local council alternates each week between general and recycling. Hence the general bins get emptied every fortnight. One would think a London authority (even a fictional one) would have the budget to make it fortnightly, if mine in the north can.

I am a bit lost about the whole bin situation in Eastenders and Corrie. Both shows have mentioned recently. I though everyone had recycling bins nowadays.

And to be honest it's not a real issue unless people are a bit thick.

A story about bins is a clear sign EastEnders is in a lull. See also darts or football team storylines.

Now all EE needs is another missing cat storyline a bit like when Louise Berridge was heading the show in 2003

Our general waste bins are emptied every week and recycling ones is every fortnight.

Mind you the other side of the streets recycling is the opposite week to ours. So you could really just put your bin across the road so it's done every week lol

99% of viewers: We want a hot and steamy romance between Steven Beale and Johnny Carter.
Alex Lamb: LOL no.
The other 1% of viewers: How about a realistic depiction of bin collection?
Alex Lamb: Sold!

Are you sure the 99% figure is right, it sounds a bit high, because I certainly don't want that, but then again I don't want the bin nonsense either.

You're in the 1%, Dave.
