Okay, I see your chips and gravy and raise you "Anthony Ogogo's dislocated shoulder had nothing to do with his performance in the Paso. Oti should have tried harder" Hmm, how long do you reckon a "What's the most ridiculous post you've ever read on DS" thread would last? ”

No. Do it, Brian - it's a great film

I love it Star but I have never really grown up - as probably evidenced by many of my posts!

Well I have heard good things about it, and the 'Let it Go' song is rather catchy in a peculiar sort of way!

We love Frozen in our house, favourite of my 7 year old and youngest so hopefully we'll be watching it, singing the songs and buying merchandise for many years yet

Gotta love Disney films and Frozen is a brilliant one. I'm bit of an old school Disney fan and prefer all the old classics and haven't taken to the new ones much - except Frozen, love it!

The money they have made from that film Gotta be one of their biggest earners when it comes to merchandise??

In a way fan fiction is at the centre of the issue. When fans write their fictions it's often (not always) to 'correct' an unliked direction taken by the screenwriter or author, so there's an inherant dislike of an external resistance to their own fantasy perception. When that dislike, or that need to fulfil the fantasy, is transposed onto real people, fan fiction is wavering in the direction of scary IMO.

Where books and films are better (to be bloody minded about it) is that in direct relation to their value (more of my bloody mind!) they are capable of including resistance to even wished-for ends. Life is intractable, thank the non-existent God!”

I see what you're saying and you're right, shipping and fan fiction are intertwined. For me, though, fan fiction is amazing. I see it as people being inspired by a story or characters and expanding on it to make something new (issues of IP and copyright aside). Regarding real people, I suppose celebrities have always been products of the public's imagination.

Sorry to be again going off topic. (I just find this stuff more interesting than Aliona's alleged claim to know who's going to win this year.) I'll stop now!

Not that it particularly did in Georgia's case, granted the technique of the Cha Cha wasn't all there, but the VW was exquisite, I thought.”

Not everyone does the same. J lost a day's training the same week. He did not permit this to be mentioned.

And Monkseal, I'm very much looking forward to la Jordan telling me what I should think this year . Where else would I get my regular dose of bile and bitchiness!

And Aliona is clearly just supporting her mate, no more. They partnered on Tour and clearly got along really well. She, Joe, Aljaz and J were constantly mucking about on stage.

Each to their own. Though Georgia lost three days, and wasn't exactly up to much on the other two either I don't think!

Jay lost the day's training to attend his Grandfather's funeral so I don't suppose he felt up to much on the other days either.

Maybe Georgia did need to explain herself that week. One of her dances was of week 1 standard, so people needed to at least have some idea why. I think that in most cases, probably the producers are more keen to make a meal of it than the celebs themselves, regarding it as "human interest".

Yes, it must have been awful for him.
But I'm not going to criticise Georgia on the basis of someone else's actions, I explained earlier why I would've wanted to explain about it if I'd been ill - and if that makes Jay a 'better' person that me then so be it.

No, I don't think that either is better than the other. Just that they are different. And choosing privacy means that you are not given any slack if your dancing suffers one week.

Doesn't seem like calling her Cha-Cha "week 1 standard" is giving much slack either , so clearly it didn't make that much of an impact anyway.

But she wasn't given marks appropriate to a week 1 dance appearing that late in the competition. I didn't have a problem with it - she was clearly extremely ill, and there was no "wuzrobbed" situation that week, so it all worked out.

True - now it's just the source of unimaginative put-downs on a completely unrelated thread.

If as I suspect you are referring to your old sparring partners over here in the GG thread I can happily report that the general consensus with Laura seems to be either apathy or 'let's see how she dances!!'
I certainly don't get any sense of anybody over here wanting to 'create problems' & the general feeling all along has been sympathy for her as many of us felt the BBC were using her as a pawn in a rather silly & childish game to create tabloid headlines!!
Personally I wish them nothing but the best for Strictly & I hope they develop a good dance chemistry, do well in the competition and that Laura & Georgia can keep their friendship, at the moment I have seen nothing to suggest that won't be the case!!

As for Giovanni, there has been a few minor mutterings from some of our thread members but in general we are still very much the Georgia AND Giovanni thread & wish He & Laura Strictly success!!
I can't of course speak for every single member but that is certainly the overriding impression I'm getting!!

If your comments were not referring to us please disregard all of this!! ”

Totally agree NDD!

As a big team GG fan I don't have many feelings towards Gio and Laura either way (yet) I'm looking forward to seeing what they both do, but for me it's about the celeb and then the partnership and what they can do! At the moment I know more about danny, will and Louise so I favour them at the moment! But that could and probably will all change! I think team lavanni, Jo and ore and aj and Claudia could be great too! Time will tell and I am looking forward to tomorrow ( I say tomorrow but I'm not actually going to be able to watch till Monday )

I don't want to be in the category of GG fans who are totally against team lavanni because I'm not! ( (nor do I think anyone from the GG thread feels like that really) I just want to wait until I see them dance - usually takes me a couple of weeks before I know who I like anyways!

Yes, me too. I think #TeamMick will be very popular, once people see him on the training VT. I hope he trends, it will be so cool, doubt it. I am getting carried away.
I love that dog.

Aliona might want to change her tune after Laura's first performance...She's not winning this in a million years.

Fighting talk VicsMum I would agree, she wasn't the best dancer of the weekend but I'm glad about that (probably not as glad as I would have been if she had been the best dancer ha ha) but I absolutely loved Jay last year and he definitely wasn't the best dancer on week one.

Aliona didn't win two Glitterballs by giving up after Week One Laura showed loads of potential.

Haha, not fighting talk, no.

Last year was a completely different kettle of fish, though. In terms of dance, I'd say the three finalists had good weeks and not so good weeks, but it was pretty much clear since the early beginning who was going to reach the final and who wasn't (I'd have swapped Katie for Anita/Helen but that's the only thing). Jay, Georgia and Kellie were consistent since week 1 and the three (four if we count Katie) rightful people reached the final. However, in terms of popularity, Jay had it in the bag since week 3 and that was that.

This year is very different, the field is a lot more open. You have more ringahs for starters and also possible journey contestants like Greg and Daisy who haven't got a dance background/training (not that we know it). Based on week 1 only, if we compare Laura to Louise, Daisy, Danny, Ore, Will, and, just to make things more interesting, let's add Judgey and Claudia to the mix, I'd say she doesn't stand a chance. I see an arch pretty similar to Rachel Riley's. Obviously I'm just taking into consideration performance, I have no idea how popularity is going to play into it but, judging by the stats thread, I wouldn't say she can rely on a big fanbase.

All of the above can go to ****, of course, in case she produces a magic jive on week 3.

I'd definitely agree that the field is a lot more open this year which makes it very exciting. I'm trying to think back to the opening shows last year and I can't remember being overwhelmed by anyone other than Peter Andre and Janette - I really did like their cha cha!
