What a bunch of cuts!
OK, this starts of a bit off thread but bear with me. I watched Bridget Jones' Diary last night on Sky BO and it is significantly different from the DVD release version. Without going into the stupid details a lot of the 'courtship' between Bridget and Daniel was missing, e.g. getting pissed while watching rugby and cricket.
The same happened with 'Hannibal' except this time the DVD release was signiifcantly changed compared to the cinema release. A number of the 'deleted scenes' that came with DVD were actually included in the original theatrical release! Is this just making cuts to create 'deleted scenes'? For example there is a camera pan in Florence which features priests playing football - included in the theatrical release and extra on the DVD. Can anybody enlighten me on this or even better add to the list of changed films? |

If I recall, the BBFC who set the certificates for films deemed that for the same age group, certain things could be shown in the cinema but could not be shown on video due to easier access of material for underage viewers.
Clearly they have the interests of the young at heart. Nobody of impressionable age should be shown such horrors as a woman blackmailing her spouse into taking a "mini-break" by turning off the Rugby. The very thought gives me nightmares. All those women runnning around with the ldea that this is normal and proper in a relationship. My God, what next? Thinking that big pants is OK, that the nice Guy wins in the end. Horrible, just horrible. Guy

Yeah - I know that there are some things that are more accessible to the children at home and would understand the BBFC argue - but priests playing football????? I could go onto a thred of priests playing with balls but that would just be pathetic
How can some firms get away with this? They are surely selling the idea od deleted scenes - but they have only been deleted from the DVD release! Maybe it's just me

Certification
Apparently extra features are not treated in the same way as the rest of the film when classifying a film on DVD / Skydigital / Video. So a film might get an 18 rating uncut but if some bits are included as deleted scenes it could get a 15 rating (for example). Stupid but true!

Moulon Rouge DVD
The film Moulon Rouge was certificated 12. The double DVD is certificated 15, as some of the extras have the director f-ing quite a bit. I can't see any other reason.

At times, it's very difficult to find out what version of the movie you've bought on any DVD release. Every film nowadays has endless versions going around and you can never be sure what edit you're actually buying!??.
I don't understand why a film has to be soo different depending on where it's shown.
