Tasteless big salad tomatoes. Always had them but would never buy big ones now as there's no taste in them. Has to be small ones like peeled plum, preferably on the vine. Some cherry tomatoes seem tasteless too.

I can vaguely remember eating liquorice roots. Thinking about it now, it was like eating twigs

Yes, we used to buy them from the health food shop. We used to chew and suck them for hours. Liquorice sticks we called them.

Yeah, I'd love to gnaw on a twig for hours instead of eating chocolate, thanks mum.

When we were children a regular meal was "special mince" with mash. Which consisted of beef mince fried off with onions, a tin of baked beans and a dash of brown sauce. The thought of it now makes me want to vomit

I can remember people making chilli using baked beans back in my student days, although I was never a fan of them. |

I'm not strictly against the notion of the chicken kiev, but often the execution. (Especially of the chicken)
Bit like the Prawn Cocktail. Great if done properly but very often abused. |

The ones that are processed chicken moulded round a stick of margarine are gross, although I used to love them when I was a kid, I have better taste now.
M+S Gasto chicken kiev is really good though. They're too much hassle to try and make from scratch for me, and I'd probably mess it up. |

Sago and Tapioca remind me of school dinners from childhood. I can remember the individual translucent beads

Semolina
![]() It wasn't very nice and I chucked the pack after making it once But my memory was that semolina was alright in school dinners though I do mainly remember it as being flavoured with chocolate ! rice pudding was always OK.......one of the standards that Mum used to make a couple of times a week. blancmange was OK........basically just like jelly but made with milk tapioca and sago........I suppose I must have eaten them because they were part of dinners but I wouldn't have them now ! |

![]() You can keep the sago and tapioca though ![]() Those were the days. 7:30am watching cartoons in the living room in winter mornings with a bowl of semolina and the DJ Kat show. ![]() Tapioca, ugh! Looks like fish eggs. I've never had it. Some mentioned Angel Delight... I tried it in a long time 2 years ago. Strawberry and Butterscotch. Ugh, its like plastic goo. I used to swear by that stuff as a child and teenager. More so with jelly and evaporated milk. Evaporated milk is disgustingly sickeningly sweet to me now that I find it impossible to take. Something I had always used for coffees. Had it one Christmas a few years ago. Never again. Coffee boiled milk, win. Scooshy cream on top with a sprinkle of finely crushed chocolate. Nom nom nom. Haven't had that in years either. |

We must have had a thread a few years ago about the school dinner white/milk puddings.......rice, sago, tapioca, blancmange and semolina and shortly after I saw semolina in the supermarket and bought it for nostalgia

I used to love Horlicks tablets and my favourite biscuits were caramel squares.
Mum used to buy a box of broken biscuits and we,d fight over the broken chocolate biscuits. Every Saturday I used to buy a portion of bits of batter from the fish and chip shop. They were cheaper than chips and fish was too expensive. I still buy tinned pears now and every few months I fancy opening a tin. Winkles or rabbit aren't missed, suede neither along with any type of offal. I also wouldn't fancy one of the tinned hamburgers the ice cream man used to sell, though at the time they were a rare treat. |
