It's the disconnect with Phil I don't understand. I know their marriage has been rocky so far but Sharon wanted to make it work after Peggy's death.
She seems to be away from the Mitchell household more than she's there. In last night's episode she was out first thing. We later heard from her that Phil had had a bad night yet she didn't want to check on him in the morning or stay with him?”
Isn't this nitpicking, though? Even just slightly? Sharon seems at a loose end right now but she has had a very busy year, and she's hardly the only character that's a bit direction-less at the moment. For example, what exactly has Jack done since his return? Or Roxy? Virtually nothing. Shirley has also had a very quiet year. And look what they've done to Kathy.

She's expressed plenty of concern about his illness. If she didn't want to be with him she'd have taken Grant up on his offer, but she very clearly chose Phil. And there's never been anything on screen to suggest she is waiting for him to die in order to get his money. People said this when Peggy died; it wasn't true then and it isn't true now.

Exactly. The show is in a transition phase, and I expect a few stories had to be dropped. Sharon is far from the only idle character right now. And at least she isn't as bad as 2012/13 "Sharon" aka the Tanya clone.
