The Philth's walking, talking, pouting and eye bulging doormat.

I have no issue with her being a lady of leisure if she can afford it, I just wonder where she keeps rushing off to, like in last night's episode before Denny had even gone to school. It's bizarre. Unless she had an early morning tanning appointment. She has quite the glow about her these days and perhaps likes to keep it maintained.

A lot of her scenes are quite superfluous. Characters don't necessarily need a job to have purpose, but they do need to interact meaningfully with other characters.

Sharon is lacking purpose atm. Even in her family she has no defined role. The state of Phil barely seems to register with her.

Sharon can then bring back an Angie's Den/Albert sort of bar/club.

The likes of Kush, Stacey, Martin, Abi, Lauren, Ben, Johnny, Whitney and co need somewhere to go. Particularly the youngsters. And the likes of Bex and Louise won't be long until they're 18 either.”

Does it even still exist? I can't remember I saw anyone walk past the black and white spiral wall thing.

I wonder she has ever thought of opening a Tanning Salon

She could call it

The Mitchells are a mess. As much as I like them as a family, it seems that Sharon has no job, Phil is unable to work, Jay's done a runner and Ben has a broken arm and hasn't been in a fit state to work since Paul died. So no-one's bringing any money in. Presumably The Arches is closed at the moment. Phil couldn't afford to repay Grant his money, so Phil's magic self-replenishing safe must be faulty. What are they living on?

Not sure if Sharon received much money from The Albert, or if Phil still has any other business interests, like the snooker hall he once had? Perhaps Peggy had some assets and they're due an inheritance? Not that the latter's been mentioned at all and Grant could do with some cash too!

I assume she's running Phil's many, many businesses.

I think he only has The Arche's thesedays but I'm not sure. Does Phil still own the land where the Car lot used to be?

Phil still owns the R&R doesn't he? It's never seen or even mentioned, but perhaps we can assume Sharon spends her time there.

The rarely seen snooker halls? Does he still own the car lot? And the Arches?

David owned the freehold on the land.

Phil still owns the Arches and the club.

The snooker hall hasn't existed since about 2004. It was knocked through to make the club bigger.

Oh I forgot Phil still owned RnR. Hopefully it will make a comeback and we'll see Sharon running it again under SOC.

I imagine she is running it just off screen.

He put Ronnie in there to run it for him at one time. Jack is home all day so she wouldn't have trouble with childcare.

I want Sharon to be back in The Albert as owner/landlady!

The improvement of her character came during that.

I don't think she is running the R & R off-screen as when we do see her she's traipsing with shopping bags or hanging out in the pub. Her tan is also darkening at an alarming rate so I presume she is finding time to have that topped up.

It's the disconnect with Phil I don't understand. I know their marriage has been rocky so far but Sharon wanted to make it work after Peggy's death.

She seems to be away from the Mitchell household more than she's there. In last night's episode she was out first thing. We later heard from her that Phil had had a bad night yet she didn't want to check on him in the morning or stay with him?

It's not just Sharon though, is it? The majority of characters are directionless and story-free. This is what happens when a producer (DTC) plays favourites. But early indications are that SOC is promising.

I'm not sure why she went back. Maybe she's hoping he'll pop his clogs and leave her the lot. It certainly doesn't bother her that he's dying.

Isn't this nitpicking, though? Even just slightly? Sharon seems at a loose end right now but she has had a very busy year, and she's hardly the only character that's a bit direction-less at the moment. For example, what exactly has Jack done since his return? Or Roxy? Virtually nothing. Shirley has also had a very quiet year. And look what they've done to Kathy.

She's expressed plenty of concern about his illness. If she didn't want to be with him she'd have taken Grant up on his offer, but she very clearly chose Phil. And there's never been anything on screen to suggest she is waiting for him to die in order to get his money. People said this when Peggy died; it wasn't true then and it isn't true now.

Exactly. The show is in a transition phase, and I expect a few stories had to be dropped. Sharon is far from the only idle character right now. And at least she isn't as bad as 2012/13 "Sharon" aka the Tanya clone.
