EE - Is Ronnie a loss?
Is Ronnie/Samantha leaving the show a major loss to Eastenders or did the public just pick the best character from a bad bunch? She's obviously still a fan favourite but has she run her course? Or could SOC brought her back to her best?
I'm personally not convinced she left because she was pushed. I felt with DTC leaving she felt it time to go and Rita Simons decided on this occasion to join her. |

The Mitchell Sisters were really great characters for years, I do feel for the past 2 years or so Ronnie is almost an entirely different character. The Ronnie we have now seems cuddly and nice
I preferred her cold and unapproachable ![]() They played their role fantastically, but I do think they have had their time now. I'm glad they are leaving together, as they came in together. |

Maybe a few years ago but nah, not now. All Ronnie seems to do is look after the ever growing Mitchell/Branning spawn, it has felt like they didn't know what to do with her after all of the Vincent drama came to a screeching halt
I have enjoyed her friendship with Honey, that was nice for a bit and made a change from her obsessing over Roxy! |

No, they wrote her into a corner and gave her crap stories. A rest may be for the best.

Ronnie at her best is a massive loss.
Ronnie as she has been written these last few years will not be. |

She is, but not as much of a loss as she was in 2011, if that makes sense.
She's been on the show for a decade and is a Mitchell. Of course she's a loss. |

No.
Ronnie has been a spent character since at least 2011. This exit is well overdue. |

No, not at all. The character has been burnt out for a while and Womack is phoning in her performances from another continent.

Wonder if this is why they've been giving Jack and Honey 'moments' in the script.
I know Emma said Honey wouldn't step on Ronnie's toes or cheat - but if Ronnie isn't there and she and Jack are (and Billy does something stupid yet again) there could be something. (that's if neither are leaving, I'm currently 2 weeks behind on my sky plus box - was 3 weeks until tonight )

Yes she is a loss.
Ronnie was the biggest character for a period a few years ago. She and Stacey carried the show. They could have kept the mother theme going on with Matthew but seem to have ditched that in favour of all this gangsta blue eyes stuff with Vincent and being involved with murders. In a way I hope it is a break so SOC can give the punishment Ronnie should get but then return in a great new direction. Samantha has great presence. Roxy not so much a loss. She was only ever best served as a sidekick. |

Ronnie and Roxy were great around 2007-2010, but since then they haven't been up to much.
Ronnie killing Carl was stupid as well as the Fatboy stuff. Murderers tend not to have a long shelf life. Maybe Stacey can get away with it as Archie was a paedophile, rapist and all round scumbag. But killing Carl and Fatboy (aswell as swapping babies) meant she can't stay around forever unpunished. It's unrealistic. |

I think Ronnie only won that poll because out of all the characters in that poll, Ronnie has been at the centre of many dramas and therefore she remains memorable in an eastenders viewers mind. But that still doesn't go hand and hand in the quality of the character'a writing and Sam's iconic phoning in performances.

Sam Womack is a huge loss, there is no doubt about it. However Ronnie was boxed into such a corner that exit at this point really was the only place to go. Hopefully in a few years once rested they can bring her back and capture some of the spark she had pre baby swap.

She'd be a loss if they hadn't written her into a corner (as 0...0 pointed out) and if Samantha Womack was still capable of giving good, consistent performances where she wasn't phoning it in (as little-monster said.) When she actually puts in the effort, the most recent example being the rape trial episode, Sam plays her fantastically. But most of the time she just looks bored and I genuinely think that for all people's assertions that she is the stronger actress out of her and Rita Simons, Rita has been outperforming her consistently ever since Ronnie was in a coma and never really came out of it.
Perhaps all she really needs is a rest but to be honest I'd rather she was killed off to fulfill her status as a tragic heroine, even though she hasn't really been a heroine you can root for ever since she crushed Carl White's body. |

I think she needed to go, she was most certainly written into a corner and i dont think there is a way forward for her. I wont miss her i find her a very heavy character to watch and often very miserable.

I thought she was a loss when she left in 2011, but not anymore. She was a favourite of mine in her early years but as others have said, they boxed her into a corner and Sam seemed to be aware of that too if her flat performances were anything to go on. Ronnie has been a shell of a character for some time now so I won't miss her.

I liked her at the beginning but no I'm pleased she is going and surprised she won the poll!
I don't like the person she became killing off anyone that gets in her way and some of the storylines were ridiculous. I hate the way that some characters i.e Ronnie & Roxy plus Kat & Alfie just go round in circles and it's just so boring to watch as a viewer. I also don't like the way fatboy left, he should have been one of the people that departed on happy terms. |
