I bet the FBI wish they had actually recorded their interview with Majid Nassar now
![]() Thought it was rather heavy handed with the foreshadowing of his death. Look lets point out the food being delivered to the prisoners for no reason whatsoever ![]() So what do the FBI do now with regards to Macleish? Now they know he's being considered for VP they really should report what they do know. It's obviously not enough to charge him with anything but would surely stop him being considered for the VP. Of course Tom will no doubt offer the post at the dinner and Macleish will end up as VP before the FBI can say anything. Once Macleish is the VP it will be open season on President Tom. I'm guessing he'll survive the assassination attempt but be put out of commission for a while letting Macleish take over and put the next stage of the Bad guys plan into motion. |

But didn't they say that his choice for VP has to be ratified by Congress? In which case they have to wait until the Congress elections have been held. But maybe we are supposed to forget about that.

Looking slightly ahead, the final episode is called "Inauguration"*. So not sure where they'd go with a Season 2 as he'll no-longer be the 'designated survivor' but the actual president
![]() (* Hardly a spoiler as it's right there in the listing.) |

![]() (* Hardly a spoiler as it's right there in the listing.) Maybe the title "Designated Survivor" points not just the process of taking a member of cabinet to a secret hideout during the State of the Union address but to something more sinister and deliberate yet purposeful. The designated surviour isn't just about Kirkland (who will forever known as the designated surviour without which he would never have been prez) but also Macleish (and the unknown cabal of terrorists/political agents) who was *designated* to survive the bomb blast and infiltrate high office through the backdoor.

Blake's 7 and Taggart continued without the title character.

So how come there is suddenly a Secretary of State? Wikipedia says the Secretary of State is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, so is there actually a Senate now? It might have been better if they showed stuff to do with the new Senate and the appointment of the Secretary of State instead of devoting so much time to the question of whether Leo is the President's son or not. About which, even if they don't want to do a DNA test, they might be able to get some idea from comparing blood types.
At least this show is now completely different from 24 - in 24, Jack's daughter was kidnapped but in this show, the FBI guy's son has been kidnapped. |

Also, surely that guy who was pushing the dinner cart isn't the actual big bad? But the CIA file gave his code name as "Catalan". Or did the CIA contact put that on the document to try to make Hannah think that guy was the top man when he is really just a cog in the machine?

I'mm quite enjoying the show now, It got off to a flakey start but seems to be finding its feet now. As long as the kids, who were straight out of Central Casting, are kept in the background I'll be happy. |

Supposedly the Senate was appointed by the Governors (2 Senators per State) following their meeting with President Bauer and there are elections for the House being planned.

In the UK, if an MP is murdered, the other main parties don't normally run candidates against the candidate from the victim's party at the by-election, as it would be unfair for the party to lose a seat due to murder. Yes, there will be some independent candidates and maybe some from smaller parties, but not many people vote for them.
I don't know whether the same is true in the US if a member of Congress is murdered (and Google couldn't tell me) but in this episode they said that 162 independents had been elected in the Congressional elections. And I know they had the Congressional elections all on the same day, but surely they were actually by-elections caused by the fact that Congress had been wiped out by a terrorist attack? (I assume that the two surviving members didn't have to stand for re-election as their term wasn't up.) Although the President seemed to think that it was up to him whether those by-elections went ahead or not. So if the party representation of the Congress has been changed so drastically, with 162 independents being elected, that seems wrong in an election which was only held because of a terrorist act. And I have trouble imagining the large amount of election campaigning which there must have been for this to happen. Looking forward to seeing whether Hannah Wells is o.k. after the car crash. And wasn't it lucky that Mike the Secret Service agent suddenly turned out to be a computer expert?! |

Dem) - contested by Conservative, Labour, Green and Liberal Parties. 1984 - Sir Arthur Berry (Cons. Enfield South) - won by Michael Portillo (Cons.) - contested by Liberal and Labour Parties 1981 - Rev, Robert Badford (UUP - Belfast South) - won by Martin Smyth (UUP ) - contested by Alliance, Democratic Unionist and Social Democratic and Labour Parties 1922 - FM Sir Henry Hughhes Wilson, Bt (UUP - North Down) - won by John Morrow Simms (UUP) - uncontested but had been uncontested in previous 2 by-elelctions 1979 - Aire Neave (Cons. Abingdon) - no by-election was held as it was a General Election year - won by Thomas Benyon (Cons.) - contested by Labour and Liberal Parties |

Thanks for the info. But I still find it hard to imagine the amount of election campaigning which would have had to go on for all those independents to be elected.

Yes; possibly a little 'deus ex machina' but certainly plausible and saves having to introduce another character to do what Mike did. |

Yes, it had a bit of a shakey start but is settling down into what is probably my favourite of the new season shows.

I really like the show but I don't like the chap who plays Aaron, he's so wooden. I find him dreadful to watch.

Before I watched I checked for a 'season 2' not realising that there was a second part of S1 to come. Had assumed it was just a mini/limited-run series.
And they had better not kill off his wife. Most attractive woman on the planet!
