Was worried about the song when it first came out but wow what a brilliant AT they did and so happy Bruno and Len gave them tens. Definitely my favourite dance of the series so far

Charleston to Putting on the Ritz for Blackpool

I was considering potential Charleston songs (ditto AS) songs for Danny rather than planning lessons this afternoon and Puttin' on the Ritz was one of my top choices. A Charleston in Blackpool to an excellent song!

Is it a good song for Charleston?

I'm not a dancer but to me it sounds like it'd work well. It's a great swing tune but lends itself to a more classic Charleston than a goofy one if that makes sense.

Fred Astaire version

Every time I watch their AT it just gets better and better and works so well with the song now I'm used to it. In fact I may have to add it to my playlist!

Looking forward to the Charleston next week. The song choice should give us a nice traditional Charleston which would be great to see.

I just hope SCD are not going to add extra dancers this year to fill the dance floor it really does distract from the couples sometimes and I would hate that for our two.

Robbie Williams version......................that's a good one!!!???? So happy with this genre........it's a great song.

If you would like to see an unconventional take on the song, check out Damien Molony's version from Being Human! He plays vampire Hal and has reverted after being "clean" for a long time. Ignore the bit at the beginning.

Being Human is one of my favourite series and it is the show which brought us Aidan Turner for the first time!

Lovely, lovely comments from Brendan. I know how much he adored Danny's QS, and not afraid to be slightly controversial with others. (I understood what he meant with Louise and Kevin's AS.)

I agree, Danny and Oti need to be centre stage so if there other dancers they shouldn't detract from their dancing. 👍

Thank you for that. What lovely comments from Brendan. It's nice to hear a pro echoing what all of us have said about Danny; the judges are overly picky and I don't know what he needs to do to win praise across the board. He's by no means a perfect dancer but hes pretty damn good. And I love that Brendan acknowledged how hard Danny works. He's giving this show everything.

This bit made me feel a little sorry for Danny:

"I don't know what he has to do, though - I think he's going to have to do something pretty extraordinary to get the full praise from the judges. I feel sorry for him, because I know how much he would like it. And he works so hard - when I was in the studio across the way, he was in there hours before I got there and he would apparently stay hours after we'd left! He's a very dedicated person - they both are."

Though the latter part is also interesting - he clearly puts the hours in and is working hard to improve, though I know some say he hasn't . Hope the judges give him a 40 before too long. Would've liked a big ballroom number for Blackpool but that Charleston with that music could be great.

I think that Danny has to work harder than anyone else because the judges know that he's very good and want him to be better than the previous week. Also there's pressure on Oti to keep giving Danny challenging choreography.

There's definitely that pressure there and I'm consistently impressed by how Oti works to achieve that week after week. She could give him easier choreography but she always challenges him. I know she didn't choreograph the AT but I saw her mark on that dance. It gives me faith for their salsa and samba if they're lucky enough to get to do them.

Guys that fred A version on YouTube!! Argh!!! Imagine if Danny recreated that?!

If, as seems evident, they're putting in stupidly long rehearsal hours, Oti must stay up late working out the choreo for the next routine, as they're always well planned and packed with content. Bless her socks!
