My Kitchen Rules UK, Monday 3 October 2016 on Ch4
Judges are Michael Caines and Pru Leith. Michael Caines is lovely but I don't see him as a natural presenter or particularly charismatic. Pru Leith won't take any prisoners. I don't know how they're dividing the country up as I didn't want to look too closely in case of spoilers!
The bad news is that they've given it the usual Come Dine with Me slot of 5 p.m. - CDWM moves to 4.30 after a new series of 4 in a Bed. Which shows what they think of it and I don't think that shows much faith in it - CDWM is well past its sell by date and has nowhere near the audience figures of its heyday so putting it on directly after isn't going to be a huge ratings boost. It's as if they're already consigning it to low budget daytime filler. Fingers crossed I'm completely wrong. |

During working hours and totally agree, that time slot gives an indication of production value.

It's got to be better than the UK's first go of it, that was terrible.

my favourite moment i think was one of the outdoor challenges when the bald welsh guy turned up in pink denim shorts and a crushed velvet pink t-shirt i was thinking it was a Little Britain cross-over and he was from Llanddewi Brefi |

Interesting that they set a time limit on delivery of each course. Presumably they decided not to risk eating dessert at 2 in the morning.
That was about the only interesting thing. The word that springs to mind is, 'Awkward'. As I suspected, Michael Caines is lovely but not a natural TV presenter. And I don't care either way what Pru Leith thinks, I find no her inconsistent on the Great British Menu and I don't expect anything different here. Maybe it'll improve when everyone relaxes a bit. |

It seems c4 have got MKR pegged as another tea time reality show in the vein of CDWM/Coach Trip. Just settling down to watch it now |

Running for 6 weeks apparently. That plus the regional formatting would seem to infer that it is a once maybe twice a year at most thing?
It seems to have borrowed the worst from every cookery contest out there and can't decide what it is trying to be. What were Michael and Pru thinking of signing up for this? The only decent thing about it is Mark Benton. |

I know we make fun of the manipulation in MKR Aus - the 'casting' of different characters and the pieces to camera with the repeated catchphrases - but that's what makes it fun. So far this is no fun at all. I'm sure I've seen one of the couples on Couples CDWM. |

I saw it a few times in Australia and it was good there - watched it today and was ok but you did not miss much if you did not see CDWM as that was awful. Dreadful set of contestants who shouted and laughed very loud all the way through and generally got on my nerves - will not be watching it again this week.

Well compared to MKR Australia that was a bit pound shop
The hosts are a personality vacuum and both seemed a bit embarrassed to be there, certainly not a patch on Pete, Manu, Colin et al (even Guy would have improved it!) All in all it seemed just a bit too pleasant and nice, I don't think the natural British reserve and the high pressure competitiveness of MKR are a natural fit |

Boring.
Contestants too 'nice'. Judges too bland. The reason MKR Australia works is it is glossy, over the top, heavily scripted, and as far away from reality as possible. The bitchiness is why people love it. MKR UK is a damp squib. Re-tool it to make it like the Aus/NZ versions, or axe it. |

I can see them trying to send it down the CDWM route filled with 'characters' if it gets a second series but we already have CDWM if we want to see desperate wannabes who think they can cook. If Caines and Leith have any self respect they'll say no thanks after this one. |

I also don't get why they didn't go for the 'look' of MKR Aus/NZ - the red logo, the black aprons, the same MKR HQ set, the theme tune etc.
Its all a bit dreary in the UK version. |

And all the contestants could do with a wash, so untidy and minging, badly dressed, bad teeth, they just look very unhygienic.

I thought it just seemed a bit lacklustre - prue was ok but Michael has zero presence and such a monotone dull voice. It lacks oomph, the uk version from a few years ago was much better (!)

if they had docked points on the aussie version for time then quite a few teams would have been on negative points

But did they actually dock points? They gave the late meals 6 and 5 but had criticised both meals quite heavily anyway.

not sure, it was said on the voice over that teams would be docked points for being late i think
It would have been wiser to say "being late will be taken in to consideration when awarding scores" rather than "points will be deducted" |

It was all very dull, except for Pru's hair. What on earth was going on there? It looked like she'd stuck her finger in a socket.

It's just CDWM with instant judging, why could they not stick with the Australian format, and l don't like the voiceover element, either.

Well. Having given it a second night, it's perfectly obvious why the MKR Aus production team 'cast' the teams taking part so they get a mix of characters, even if they do overdo it sometimes. If you don't, all you end up watching is a group of probably perfectly pleasant but apparently terminally dull people eating their supper. They can't even inject any tension into the cooking.
We know that MKR Aus is manipulated. That's what makes it fun. No fun to be had here. I agree, Heartache, the voiceover is as flat as the rest of the show. Put it out of its misery, 4. |

The whole enterprise is just so depressing! They've managed to make the UK look so dreary and dull compared to Australia!
Everyone seems so bored and unenthusiastic, even the food looks as if it can't be bothered - today's episode was just brown, brown, a bit more brown and a bit of grey to finish. It's quite embarrassing really |
