It all looks and feels cheap.
In Australia MKR is shown on 7 (like ITV basically) during primetime. Its actually one of the country's highest rating shows, and runs into about 48 episodes a season. In the UK we turn it into a cheap, daytime affair on a channel whose programmes barely make the top 10 in ratings. Even the prize money in the UK one is pitiful, £10,000, whereas in Australia its AUD$250,000 Re-tool it, bring in the bitchiness, the graphics, the gloss and better judges. Stick it in primetime and you'd likely have a hit here too. I think ITV would have been a better home for MKR, although traditionally they don't tend to do cookery during primetime. |

I fear for Bake Off even more after seeing this. They've stripped it of everything that makes MKR Aus successful. |

I tried, really I did. Oh my what a gloomy, grey, uninteresting show that was. The judges are not right for the show, much as I like both of them, they are not right here. The contestants look as if they don't want to be there either! As for 'voice-over man', did he get the job because he sounded as bored as I was?
As it is on at a time I can't watch, I recorded it, I've deleted the link now

Out of curiosity I checked their Facebook page and Twitter feed. The FB page doesn't allow comments and the few comments on Twitter hate it too.
Dead in the water, I'd say! |

Just watched the first episode what a load of rubbish! Why don't they just make the show like the Aussie one. Also I thought Steve jones was presenting this show?

i know it got good feedback but that menu tonight scared me a little
the haggis starter with plaintain and mint sauce sounded really weird the dessert with that sweet pepper sauce again sounded weird and it was really stretching it to call it a cranachan as unless i missed it there was no toasted oats which is one of the core ingredients of a cranachan |

Help!!!
On demand we seem to have MKR UK showing on Channel 4 & Sky Living channels. Both seem to be UK episodes with different judges. Any ideas? |

It was telling that the only person around the table who had had a cranachan before said it wasn't a proper cranachan. Somehow they've made this version worse than the one Sky attempted a few years ago! |

The channel 7 (Australia) Facebook page had loads of terrible comments about the UK version too - pretty much what we're all saying here, dull, drab, poor judges, and just looks and feels all wrong.
Its weird because 7 actually produced it for Channel 4 so I'm not sure why it is so wrong, unless Channel 4 insisted they fiddled with the format? |

I think budget is the main reason, it looks like it's been made on a shoestring!
I would guess in the Australian version Coles supermarkets probably pay a huge amount of the cost - most of the ingredients are from Coles, and of course every contestant shops there for their Instant Restaurant round. NZ is the same, they all shop at Countdown and use Countdown products. |

They should have spent way more on it.

Where did the time go on yesterday's episode? They spent 3 and half hours shopping around Edinburgh? I live in Newcastle and could have got the train there, done the shopping and got the train home in that time! |

Finding the whole programme embarrassing but keep watching hoping it might get better.
Couldn't believe it when Pru Leith poured the hot pepper sauce into her fruit and cream (refuse to call it anything else, it was nowhere near cranachan). Thought it showed her up as a poor judge of flavours even though one of the contestants followed suit and they seemed to enjoy it. Maybe it was to hide the taste? |

I don't like Mark Benton's commentary. He's a comic actor and makes the whole thing feel jokey (which it is, unfortunately) so I can't take it seriously at all.
The contestants are dull and I even miss the constant " I'm just doing this, BABE" running commentary, and I never thought I'd say that. The judges are a charisma free zone, none of the twinkly eyed Pete & Manu, and I ask myself why I'm still watching. Just hopeful I guess. |

Everything about this is just awful, there''s nothing here that I'd executed anything like the Austin version- I know the sky version wasn't good but at least it looked like MKR- This is nothing like MK- Bland, vanilla, really poor cooking- This is making me sad

The two yesterday did not move with any sense of urgency, all done at a leisurely pace. Not the mad dash around you see on the Australian and New Zealand versions.
I want to see people falling asleep at midnight while still waiting for their main! 😅 |

Indeed. This is just couples come dine with me 😢
Even the team names are painful. I wish I could stop watching but my OCD insists that I've started so I have to finish. I wonder how many regions they've divided the country into. |

Pretentious Couples CDWM, with a completely irony-free commentary.

It's 6 weeks isn't it? 5 heats and finals week maybe? I'm sure they mentioned the region's in one ep but can't remember what it was |
