OK Mam and Son are, if I may say so, utterly despicable. Is this the second group of people because I am sure I remember seeing some kitchen disaster with a completely different woman with wild ginger hair?

It was Scotland last week - the first team wore 'Jimmy' wigs and gave everyone round the table one. So there were quite a few of them!

I'm so happy that 'Mam & Son' got pushed into the cook off. He really thinks that he's a 3* Michelin chef, I hope his boss isn't watching because it sounds like he's about to hand in his notice soon and Mam just knows her way of cooking and nothing else she's more suited to being on this weeks (awful) Come Dine with Me!
They could bring in a synth from Humans to replace Michael and it would be less wooden! |

Somewhat random, shurley? They're despicable, but you don't want to tell us why? And you despise them, but seem to be perfectly happy for the Syrian pairing to blatantly underscore. Five, when the other couples were giving seven and eight? Smacks of cheating, to me.

Caught up on last night's - 'Mam' must be the most narrow-minded person about food I've ever seen on any MKR and 'Son' doesn't know as much about food as he thinks he does. For me the difference between them and the Syrian sister and brother is that they're hyper critical but from a position of some knowledge of food whereas Mam and Baby Boy criticise from ignorance on her part and desperation to win on his. Both teams are scoring tactically, which I don't like, but I dislike the cartoon Yorkshire pair more - his smug grin is infuriating.
The judges' marks continue to be very little relationship to their comments. For the first time in two weeks I actually care a bit about who goes through! Only a bit though.

Last night was also the first time I remember Hunter Gatherer (Rob?) speaking, he may as well not have been there the rest of the week. Fingers crossed for the Syrian Siblings tonight (and hopefully the Fusion Friends have been told they can move!) ☺ Did anyone recognise tonights 'top chef in the country' guest judge in last night's clip? Didn't ring any bells with me.... |

Certainly don't like Mam and Son but they have at least scored fairly. Syrian Siblings didn't like their scores so marked the Mummies down. Each of those pairs deserve each other and what uninspired cooking for a cookery show - you'd have thought gooseberries were imported from Outer Mongolia and gooseberries and asparagus? Why?

Darn they scraped through but to be honest I didn't like the brother and sister either! It did show that Mam and Son aren't as good as they think lets just hope he's a better paramedic than chef!

None of the dishes seemed to work which was reflected in the scoring I think but I wouldn't have let either group through and brought back the Hunter Gatherers.
In fact, that could be a good twist - if none of your dishes come up to scratch then the losers will be waiting in the wings to grab your place. It might shake things up a bit. |

Some brief thoughts on tonight's thrilling elimination cook-off.
First things first, I wouldn't have thanked you for any of the dishes put up tonight. If I was presented with them on a restaurant menu I wouldn't be in the restaurant very long! There didn't seem to be much (any?) cooking on display by either couple, ready made pastry? bottled chilli sauce? Did I miss something or did the Syrian Siblings take 45 minutes to make some couscous and grill some prawns? Things must have been desperate for Pru to describe a tomato salad as 'one of the best dishes we've ever had', heritage or not its still just a tomato salad! As for Frances (one of the UKs top chefs...) and her gooseberry challenge, how did n'Son go from never having cooked with a gooseberry to an expert on gooseberries within a few minutes? Either couple would have gone, the Healthy Mums can't have been very worried by the competition they were watching. Finally, did anyone notice the mistake when one of the menus was shown as an on screen graphic? Potatos....goes to show how much care has been taken making the show, they can't manage to spell Potatoes properly! Rant over! See yours next week! |

I think the issue with this version of MKR is that the atmosphere in Kitchen HQ with just one pair watching and the judges just feels contrived- but it felt a little more like MKR than their earlier rounds... but I freely admit i only caught a couple of those.
Simon really fancies himself as a chef doesn't he when Mam seems to be a bit of a spare part. He was very much "I will be upset because I plated up a mess' ... I love Mark Benton but for some reason he really grates on me by the end of a programme. Wait - Michael not saying X from a possible 10... but we got 'from a possible 60'... maybe the editors picked up on it! Oh hang on, we got one! The under-scorers are out though. |

I am quite enjoying this now, it isn't as good as the Australian version and I think people are correct when they say it feels a bit cold and ameauterish but the northern heats were a big step up from the Scottish heats.
Why wasn't it on last night? |

Why wasn't it on last night? This team isn't going to get annoying very quickly at all. ![]() I'm not a fan of a Mark Benton at any time - he's one of those actors who always plays himself - but I'm finding him really hard going in this, he sounds as if he's about to drown in his own saliva. |

Also, all of the contestants are talking as if they've already met? How come? Are they showing the IR's out of sequence? Surely if it was night 1 nobody would have met? |

Also Michael is getting worse at remembering his lines - for this one he welcomed everyone to the first IR of the evening. I hope for their digestion's sake it was of the week. Prue's as mad as a box of frogs, isn't she? |

First we had the misspelling of potatoes and now Micheal has just said 'welcome to the first restaurant of the night'!
Got to wonder what on earth the editors were doing. It's such a lazy effort |

i noticed that - I wonder if they originally did what MKR Aus does and they all meet at kitchen headquarters first for a pep talk, but they've decided not to show it. Because it'd take time away from the riveting cooking and eating.

Prue's as mad as a box of frogs, isn't she? Maybe they do film 4 restaurants in a night? It would explain the lack of enthusiasm from everyone! |
