Not going to be able to see more than a bit of this this evening, but watching the beginning, I don't understand the seafood terrine. What's the point of getting a load of different seafood then blending it all together?

Anyone else think they've seen Karen from last night before? Come Dine with Me maybe? |

Because it tastes nice? It's no different to any other kind of terrine (game, for instance, which is delicious) or, say, a seafood bisque. The flavours blend together well.
Anyone else think they've seen Karen from last night before? Come Dine with Me maybe? Why use different sorts of fish when you're blending them all together, though? You wouldn't be able to distinguish what had gone into it so you might as well use one type for the terrine part and put strips of another, say, the salmon, in the middle with the scallops. I don't know, it didn't appeal to me at all, but it just seemed a bit of a waste of different types of fish. It didn't look appealing when Prue was pushing it around her plate either, presumably because of the egg white thing, but it didn't do them too much harm in the end. |

Haven't been watching all the instant restaurants, but I am now watching and am a little bit grossed out by the idea that beef hash is going to go with American style pancakes!

I've just got there. He obviously wasn't paying much attention to his American breakfast to put beef hash with pancakes and not a ton of bacon and a few gallons of syrup.

Darn the Syrian Siblings are back as a 'suprise wildcard' hidden behind a tree! ![]() Jesus where's the tent? If I had paid £75 million for one I'd expect Paul to turn up on time and put it up!

Britain's best amateur cooks! (apparently)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Can't think how anyone voted for that stodgy pancake with white chocolate sloshed all over it. There's no accounting for taste. I'd rather Mr I'm from Yorkshire and Mam who doesn't eat anything she hasn't been eating for 65 years don't win, apart from that it would be hard to underestimate how much I care. |

I don't know why, but I am sure Channel 4 did an MKR before and it was just as lacklustre (I recall Nigella, for some reason). I don't think that we are the best at doing cooking shows, though we are great at inspiring other countries to take the idea and run with it, making it vastly better (for this see Masterchef).

'Mam's' only there because she thinks her precious little son's going to win and be handed his own tv cooking show. Lets be honest we're still only watching to see how bad it gets. At least tomorrow the 'tent' turns up a bit smaller than I remember.

I can't remember which channel it was on but I do remember the judges were Jason Atherton and Lorraine Pascal. It was dull but I don't think it was quite as dull as this version! I'll be interested to see if they give it another series. I suppose it depends on whether they can attract advertising.

You were completely right - now trying to figure out what show it was (just remembered it was something called 'Taste') and apparently it aired on Living. Wonder why they dropped it? Nothing to do with it sucking I suppose.
MKR UK mk1 (the Atherton/Pascale incarnation) was on Sky Living. They were both crap. |

AGreed they were both pretty dire. I have wondered if Lorraine P might be up for the role of the 2nd judge on C4's Bake Off. She ticks an awful lot of boxes.
Don't think this version of MKR will be back. I really rather like the Aus version & this doesn't stray wildly from the format etc but it's almost like watching a completely different programme. It must be down to the personalities of the judges and the contestants. Was it Channel 4 who did just one series of the cooking programme that had lots of judges including Stacey whatsit & Tom Parker Bowles? Members of the public or teams bought dishes to a fete type of event initially. The winner was a lady who did an authentic curry & M&S carried it as a ready meal for a while. Runners up inluded a group of young people with learning difficulties who did a Pimms jelly. Wouldn't mind seeing that again. |

"you'll be cooking at kitchen headquarters" she says standing in the 'magnificent kitchen headquarters'!
All this tension is killing me, my nerves are a wreck... do I put the garlic bread in for 12 or 14 minutes?!
