I know we have no episodes out yet but just what do you think. I think it will it looks interesting from what I've seen so far and the livestream. Although I feel like somehow Amy's Crack would be involved in how these monsters suddenly appear on earth. That or the Rift in Cardiff, maybe something goes wrong after The Doctor is Refuelling.

No, quite simply.
Was disappointed on the initial announcement, that out of the many things they could have done a who spin off about, that this was the choice. It sounded dull and uninspired. Now episode titles, cast pictures, etc have come, and still nothing has made me think that it will be anything other than a show which tries to hard to 'down with the kids' (and also throws some aliens just to prove the weak claim to be a who spin off) and actually comes off as something embarrassing. Of course I might be wrong, and I'm not saying it will be terrible, but that is just my feeling based on what we know so far. Through everything said about it, the only one thing that means I will probably try episode 1 is just for the Doctor cameo. Like I've said before though, the very fact that they need that Doctor cameo in episode 1, to me, sounds like they aren't exactly that confident in the show itself. Torchwood never needed a Doctor appearance, and Sarah Jane was well established in it's own right before he first appeared. |

I don't think there's much "hype" to live up to, they've been extremely quiet about the show from the start and I'm pretty sure a lot of people out there still don't know it exists.
My mine is as good as anyone's, though, as to how it will be received. It's really difficult to tell, especially with knowing so little about the show. I hope they're not as shy on the advertising or it's not going to do well at all. I imagine a lot of DS members will give it five minutes maximum before they deride it as the worst thing that ever happened to TV and it was so bad that they went to make a cuppa instead and goddammit you're too easily pleased if you enjoyed this tosh. |

Yeah, I've not seen any "hype" considering it's starting (I think. See, the hype ain't working for me anyway!) in a few weeks.
I'll give it a go as it's Who related and I rate Katherine Kelly as an actor. I really haven't got any preconceived ideas at all, really. |

What hype?
Perhaps the OP can provide some proof of the existence of this hype. |

It's certainly true that there doesn't seem to much in the way of hype.
Considering ratings haven't been great for the main show recently, and as such it could be seen as the riskiest time since the revival to launch a spin off, you'd think the bbc would advertising it as much as possible, and at least putting some enigmatic 'coming soon' trailers on bbc one The only places I've seen small hype on it at all, is in places where you have to go yourself to find who information, such as the official doctor who site. If I wasn't a member of this forum, I'm not even sure if I would have heard of it's existence. |

Torchwood never needed a Doctor appearance, and Sarah Jane was well established in it's own right before he first appeared. I'm quite glad I fall under the teen-young adult demographic. Class is supposedly aimed at people my age (whilst I was a young teen at the time of "kiddie" SJA and "adult" Torchwood) so it'll be interesting to see with a personal perspective whether they get it right. |

I mean the way the production team of class has hyped it up in their Interviews, livestreams and videos not among the fandom.

There's nothing saying that they needed a Doctor cameo in the first episode, it's just the approach they've taken. And a logical one given that unlike Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures this is a show establishing wholly new characters from the very start. The Doctor is undoubtedly being used as a hook into it all but that doesn't need to be a bad thing. I do think it's a case of people ensuring that no matter what they try to do with this they are determined to presume the worst of it. They've got Peter Capaldi on board with it, we like Peter Capaldi, we're getting more Peter Capaldi... so far that's personally little for me to raise issue with. If the rest of the show ends up being half decent then that makes it even better.

To be fair though, the fact that I'm assuming it will be bad, means that I'm more likely to like it if it is actually good, rather than those who might already be assuming it will be good and going in with ridiculously high expectations. I suppose though, if nothing else, it is a few extra minutes of the Doctor on screen before Christmas, meaning if the show itself is terrible then trying the first episode won't have been a total waste. Hype is seeing it advertised (on tv, in magazines, and billboards) and talked about in tv interviews constantly up to it's launch. Not stuff that only people who know it already exists and are already interested will seek out, like the things you mention above. |

![]() I'm hardly in the 'demographic' myself, but will tune in to the first couple out of general interest and for Capaldi and Kelly. See how it goes from there. Basically what I did for the other spin offs, really. |

Firstly there is no hype on the show. Secondly I don't think the show will be successful, don't see it pulling off the British Buffy.

Certainly not tucked away on the online only BBC 3 it won't.
I hope it gets an airing on "proper" TV very quickly, and not on CBBC either! It's audience size potential, and therefore audience appreciation, will be very limited otherwise.

The least that they could have done was instead of creating a school spin-off, they could have at least done a spin-off with either the 4,5,6,7 and/or 8 Doctor or even all of them.
Guess that is too heartbreaking for them. |

The promotion for it has been abysmal. I don't expect trailers right off the bat, that's just silly, but we absolutely should have seen something by now. We're less than a month off the premiere and I'm afraid a badly Photoshopped picture of the cast running through a school corridor just doesn't cut it.
I reckon the name could be better, too. The actual content of the series could be phenomenal, I'm hoping it is and I'm excited, but it does have some obstacles to overcome outside of its own merit as a show IMO. As it stands right now, nobody would give a shite without Doctor Who holding its hand. |

Guess that is too h̶e̶a̶r̶t̶b̶r̶e̶a̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ expensive for them. I really don't know where many people think the money comes from for these ideas. They're often very interesting, but when it has to be realised on screen and you have to pay for a whole production team, the actors, the location hiring, the set design, the promotional material, the effects crew, and potentially work the scripts around the canon for the parent show in the event of a spin-off the imaginary bottomless pit of cash just doesn't suffice. |

Crikey, this thread is a downer ... I'm glad I spend most of my DW time over on GB and only pop in here now and then.
The Class thread over there (they have a whole Class section for it) is buzzing with anticipation.

As others have said, there has never been any hype. From my experience it has mostly been an expectation, and in some sections willingness, of failure.
Though I personally have higher hopes for it than Series 10 - if Death in Heaven & Hell Bent are benchmarks for how I'm going to feel by the end of it. |
