What were the judges on last night?

The Friday contestants were at a disadvantage as they were being marked fairly for a first week dance whereas the Saturday contestants were in some parts being way overmarked and were getting week 3/4 type marks.

Surely Ore would have been further up the leaderboard had he been dancing on Saturday based on the knock on the head the judges got overnight

I thought the markings were too high generally for week 1. In relative terms I think the celebs were placed reasonably fairly in the overall markings.

I think Daisy was marked correctly in relative terms. Often Strictly ladies are all about topline (Abbey is a good example) and never really work so hard on the rest of the technique, particularly legs and feet. They get moved round by the pro, especially on pivots. Daisy looked very good all round. Lovely soft feet, good lowering and drive, easy pivots. So yes I think she deserved to stand out from the crowd.

I think Danny was undermarked due to Len's dislike of showbizzy routines and his desire to keep Daisy at the top. I didn't think it was showbizzy at the expense of content or technique. He was good.

As much as I like Ed (I did start his appreciation thread), I don't think he was undermarked. He danced basics pretty much all the way through, except I think a weave (would have to go back and check) which actually looked better than the basics. Katya cleverly made it look varied by going in and out of shadowing and hold. Lesley in contrast had a more difficult routine and showed reasonably good musicality but had more difficulty with hold and extent of steps due to height difference.

Yes me too but 2 stood out for me, Danny was definitely undermarked and Daisy was overmarked, I mean a 9, what was that all about?

Make that 3, Anastacia was also overmarked. I also thought they were mean to Claudia.

Laura and Claudia were both undermarked. Ore was overmarked as it wasn't really a tango.

Danny was definitely undermarked, that was one of the best first dances I've ever seen on Strictly. Don't know what Len was thinking with that 7. And as much as I love her, Anastacia was really overmarked.
