I think that may be why humpty dumpty said "SOME of you" - not specifically you.

He comes from up north, I've not doubt he has fond memories from his past as does Joanne as they have a long history in dance as does their parents. I don't see it as false at all - it is part of who he is alongside many other aspects to his character. The fact SCD use this part of him to sell is no different to them focussing on the fact that Vincent is from Italy and is a ladies man (hes happily married, but I'm sure he'd be happy enough to accept SCD focussing on that image if they wanted, just as Oksana will accept her hard taskmaster image even though shes probably a little sweetheart). I see it as being no different.

We'll have to agree to disagree - I was speaking about the comments on here that have been made - not you specifically btw - there have been about 4 parts to his character and personality/persona that people have stated he has 'adapted deliberately' for SCD and its also been described as being 'calculated' on his part. If you don't see that in any way as suggesting hes being fake or manipulative, well like I say we'll have to agree to disagree.

Thank you, exactly.

Aparently to say so is to accuse Kevin of being "evil"
I am guilty of " vitriol " and hatred and also think he was plotting this from aged 12 or really his parents were when they decided to live in Grimsby/ Cleethorpes.

This thread is about Kevin, I could start on about the personas that others have adopted or rather embraced. Do I get irritated about it, sometimes, last year Giovanni and his Italian stallion thing was really quite irritating, however:
A I like the way he dances and choreographs
B he really wasn't playing along with that

So that irritated me less than Kevin.

Whilst we are on the subject it makes me laugh, affectionately, that Karen has stopped hissing and toned down her sex cat vibe.

If you look back to how she was when she started you couldn't get 2 different people characterwise

Given the last few pages maybe we should edit the title to; "What is it about Kevin supporters?"

If someone points out why they don't like Kevin it's all nasty!11! and hatred!!11.

I never accused you of vitriol or hatred - I just don't agree with the notion he is fake/ manipulative or calculating. I think SCD take one part of his character and focus on it as they do with most of the others. I can agree it can get irritating from a viewers perspective, from the sexyness of Gleb, to Gios Italian Stallion, to AJ being young, to Anton being a gentleman and a legend etc...its what the show does. I'm not even sure what hes 'playing along' with to be honest - he is a phrenetic dancer (of course I agree its not to everyones taste but its who he is, I don't think hes pretending?) just as I don't think hes pretending when he says he has fond memories of dancing as a child if SCD chose to ask him about it in their skits? As annoying as SCD can be in perhaps promoting a certain image that they want, I don't see it as representing Kevin as being any more false in going along with things as I do with any of the rest going along with things that SCD put on for their show - and I don't see Kevin pretending in a deliberate, calculating way to be someone who he is not. I see him as being genuine enough when he speaks. Obviously you don't! I don't have a problem with people disliking him btw - I'm not even a Kevin fanatic - I'm pretty neutral about him and have yet to support him in any series as yet! I just didn't get this idea that his personality was fake, he was being deliberately calculating about who he was on the show, that was all

Totally agreed!

I'm certainly not accusing anyone of calling him evil. I thought I'd made it perfectly clear that my initial comment was merely tongue-in-cheek. Though evidently all of that has been conveniently ignored in order to maintain this victim narrative.

I haven't accused anyone of vitriol or hatred either - I'm simply fed up with the endless Clifton threads, and the bizarre reasoning behind their continued existence.

Funny thing is, Kevin isn't even in my top 5 pros!

Anyway, bowing out of the "discussion" now!

Maybe it's different because with all those listed they seem to behave/look the same way outside the show as they do on it. If Anton suddenly threw off his shirt and tie, grew his hair long and started wearing leather and eyeliner in the Strictly off-season people would probably question what his real personality was. I'm not suggesting Kevin is manipulative or anything either, just that his case is slightly different to the other pros.

What is it about Kevin? Hhmmmmm, let me think

1. He is a man who obviously loves his job......and

2. Choreographs the routines to suit his partner.....very different styles with Frankie and Kellie.......and

3. He comes from Grimsby.........seems happy with that.....and

4. All his partners seem to love him ........and

5. I look forward to his routines every week.....and

6 I hope he and Louise have a blast and reach the business part of the competition!

Ps: I like Kevin and Karen too, she's crazy in a brilliant way

My issue with him last year was that he was working his way through his adolescent list of things he wanted to do without considering his partner much.

Ponders who brought up the words evil, manipulative, vitriol, hatred, rationalisation.

It's all very easy to say, it's a joke, why use them if you don't mean them?

Anyway that's my seasons worth of Kevin, I hope he is out soon because I don't like the way he dances or choreographs and if Loiuse is going to want to be dressed in oversized sacks that one less reason to want to watch them at all.

Thats fine Ellie, we're all going to think differently. I can understand him not wearing his hair long and putting eyeliner on for the show, it wouldn't really look right for the ballroom numbers. The fact he wants to dress in his own style when hes away from the studios doesn't represent a falseness in character to me - just that he likes his fashion and enjoys the opportunity to experiment with it when hes not at 'work' (not a taste I share btw but each to his own! ) His hair is better short for SCD (Jay would probably tell you that too!) and they're dressed according to the theme of their dance on the night. His dancing is how he dances, some love it, some not so much.

And bearing in mind Kevin has been on the show for years and has done consecutive tours, I'd imagine hes well aware by now that the Daily Mail take daily photos of them heading to the studio and plaster them over their papers. I'd imagine he wouldn't chose to dress as he likes at times like that (keep it for when hes out privately) if he was at all worried or bothered about the public getting to see it. But I guess we all see it differently and maybe seeing him in his ordinary clothes (well I suppose some may not see them as very ordinary) makes them feel he must have a completely different personality too.

me too. I'd enjoy the contrast if he kept the 'Ha Ha Marvellous!' persona while dressed in full Emo get-up. Maybe one for a future theme week....

From what I’ve read about Kevin on this forum, he’s from a dancing family, learned to dance at a young age, & started competing at a young age too, so dancing is in his blood.

I suppose he must have learned that in order to win competitions, he needed to stand out & be noticed by the judges, so he developed an extrovert dancing persona, which is what i see on the dance floor.

I’ve never met him, so don’t know what he’s like as a person off the dance floor, but from the non dancing clips that I’ve seen posted of him on DS, he comes across (to me at least) as being down to earth & pleasant.

I just think that he really loves dancing, is enthusiastic about it, & this obviously comes across.
He looks like he’s having a great time on Strictly, & enjoys the atmosphere & experience of being there.

I don't mind anyone passing comment on anyone on the show. If someone doesn't particularly like a contestant or a professional, that's fair enough it's their business.

It's the "ganging up" on an individual, I find particularly childish.

I don't think that people independently stating their issues with an argument constitutes "ganging up". It's not like it's a coordinated attack. Besides, various people chimed in on both sides of the discussion.

Unless of course you're referring to Kevin (an individual) being ganged up on - which makes far more sense.

He trys to pull off this geek chic look when he dons specs. His choreo is regularly sickly sweet. And when he came out wearing that sailor's outfit and hat on Sat I just wanted to give him a slap, which is the general reaction I have to him. Too much of a try-hard too - always taking centre stage and dancing away during the intro to the show, just like he did with Kellie last year, which made them so unlikeable. btw, I think Louise is great but would rather have seen her paired with someone else.
