Viv Windsor. There is no comedy in Emmerdale now and it's the reason I no longer watch.

EastEnders:
1. Pat Butcher
2. Pauline Fowler
3. Angie Watts
4. Cindy Beale
5. Den Watts

Obviously Wendy Richards wasn't a well lady but it's more about the way they killed the character off than the fact that they did. She would never have married that Joe - Arthur was her one true love. It all got ridiculous with him flying out of the Fowlers upstairs window!! One of Walfords original leading ladies and deserved a fitting ending.

Pat's final story was beautifully written and acted and is one of EasEnders best moments but it was PAT BUTCHER she'll never be able to come back and the actress only wanted a bloody holiday!!!

Angie Watts Walfords First Lady!! She deserved so much more than an offscreen death. I'm not sure if Anita had said that she wouldn't ever return but it just seems like such a waste for such an iconic character. 🍷🍷🍷

One of the best EE characters of all time and they also kill her off screen. Such a waste!!

Den Watts What were they thinking?!!!!! I loved when Den returned. We were all falling in love with Dennis Rickman, Vicki had returned (with her odd accent) Sharon was finally happy and then she gets her dad back! The Watts reunited. Then they gave Den an ending equal to a cheap Hollywood teen horror movie!! He's dead!! Oh no he isn't!!! Bang over the head with Paulines doggy doorstop 🐶 Oh he's dead again! Really?!!!! Is this really the best they could have come up with?! Really badly written!

The problem with Tiffany is that she's kinda iconic BECAUSE of her death. If they hadn't killed her off, I suspect she'd have faded out and vanished Lisa Fowler style (but with less impact). She wasn't exactly a brilliant character, just important through association.

For the two weeks they felt like sparing for her exit amidst all that endless Zainab and Yusef crap.

Neighbours:
1. Madge Bishop
2. The Bishop family ✈️💥💥💥
3. Jim Robinson
4. Julie Robinson
5. Kate Ramsay

Madge was such a massive character back in the day and I remember thinking at the time how rushed her exit storyline was. Madge had such a massive impact on the show. She was a Ramsay! Charlene's mum! It didn't get bigger than this at the time and although the scenes were moving it just felt rushed and not that well written. It was also just bizarre that there was no mention of Madge's children at the time of her death.... very odd.

Harold had already lost his daughter Kerry in the duck hunting shooting trauma! lol Then his son arrives in Ramsay street with his family only for them to be lost at sea in the plane crash! ✈️💥💥💥 not very believable or fair on poor old Harold!

Jim was the original alpha male of the Robinson house but the actor was hated by the company that made Neighbours. Enough to leave him on the floor of No, 26 when he was filming his heart attack death scenes! What could have been if he hadn't have been killed off?

I thought at the time that it was a bit pointless killing Julie off. She was an original Robinson and was killed off at a murder mystery weekend! Jumping the shark moment number 53!! 🏄🏄🏄

A lot of people didn't like sanctimonious Kate on here. I didn't mind her. I actually quite liked her. Bit of a shame she just got her Mark back and then managed to get shot without any signs of blood on her dress no less! lol

Den Watts, Angie Watts, Dennis Watts, Pat Butcher, Steve Owen and Michael Moon.

All of them were truly great characters and it was only pitiful, short sighted, vindictive and disgusting decisions by TPTB to kill them off.

Yes, the pattern is that they were all played by actors who were notorious for their offscreen antics, being late to set, and slagging their respective soaps off to the press at any opportunity.

Chloe from Home and Away, why bring a character after several years away who had lots of history in Summer Bay only to kill her off within about a fortnight of her return. Still beggars belief 10+ years later..

Could not disagree more. She was a fantastic character and very popular and beloved by viewers before her death.

There is absolutely no way she'd have faded away she'd certainly have been back for many more years by now

Also Abi Branning's many victims, including Marge and Tramp.

Honourable mentions to those other senseless EE tragedies: Boots, Marilyn and Hercules.

Anita Dobson was quoted at saying she wasn't interested in a full time return as Angie. She would have been interested in a one off, or a short term guest stint in the role. A contract that didn't commit her to the show for a long period of time.

However all she was offered (in 2001) was a full time return for which Anita wasn't interested in. Therefore the Producer at the time took the decision to kill off the character and we saw her off screen death in 2002.

It was originally intended to reunite Den and Angie back in the Queen Vic shortly after Sharon returned in 2001. Hence why there lots of references to Den and Angie when she came back at that time.

All the claims of "we tried to get her back but she wasn't interested" are rubbish. Anita also stated that she seriously considered a comeback but ultimately a full time permanent return she really wasn't interested in.

I would have personally preferred to of seen good 'ol Angie pop up from time to time on a recurring basis rather than be killed off - thus ending any plausible chance of a return.

Completely agree. The Tony storyline was tremendously written - showing how torn he was over what he had done. He felt very guilty over what he had done so much so he even suffered a heart attack and confessed his guilt to Roy. As well as genuinely looking after Maria and baby Liam. When he handed himself in to the police it was very powerful, him accepting his fate and being relieved of all that guilt that was literally making him ill.

Then 6 months later to have him escape from prison go on a rampage kill someone else and then blow up the factory and kill himself made no sense. It was so out of character, nothing but a cheap ratings grabber.
