Hi folks, going to florida in the next 2 weeks and in the past have had sat-nav, no impatise from the family re-this they seem to think all u need to do is switch on your phone go to maps and it will get us there! Not knowing anything about phones and apps I have no idea! I tapped on my map app on my phone the other day and I've had this phone for 2 years and realised that I have navigation! Daughter thinks when we go to the US all we need to do is switch it on and 'Vallah' we have maps and guidance! I'm not sure any suggestions would be usefull. I do have Garmin Sat-nav with maps for life but have tried and tried and couldn't get it to work! so much for the premium!

... and are you going to have a data alllowance on your phone when using it in the US? Have you checked the roaming costs?

The best solution would be to have a navigation app where you can download all the maps beforehand. Even Google Maps allows you to do that now.

I would second this. I always do a download of where I am going even if I know I will have data. I believe also that Google Maps also now allows turn by turn navigation with an offline map.

it will do turn by turn off line but no traffic info, no re-rerouting, no POI and no new destination even if its in the cached area.

But the good news is that google maps uses very little data and it makes it much more usable if you have a data connection.

The last time I went to Florida was about 8 years ago. I had a Hire car and some maps that I printed off before I went, they worked fine and when we couldn't find what we were looking for we stopped and asked people the way, to our amazement they spoke reasonably good English and told us how to get to where we wanted. Hope you have a great time touring around.

Looks like another drive-by query.
