Mike Hough is talented so it's very odd that he was told to sing Whitney Houston - I Have Nothing which doesn't not suit his voice at all. I can see why he wouldn't have wanted to sing it.

He's tweeted many times saying he was told to sing that song that he didn't want to sing it. Not sure if that means the producers pick the song for each act to sing?
It seems like they try to fix it in favour of the acts they want through

Followed the kid for years he is a great singer and was fcuked over by the show - as they do! He's so good though

I thought it had been well documented now for a good number of years that the producers choose all the songs.

If they just wanted someone there to make up the numbers, they will ensure those contestants are given a song that's far out of their comfort zone so that they struggle thus making it look like they can't sing that good so the judges get to inevitably send them home.

That'll be what happened to Mike.

I would say that's been auto-tuned. He did not sound like that when in front of the judges when the seats were to his right. It has that 'auto-tuned' effect to it.

The Whitney song didn't suit him at all, but the fact that he still managed to sing it reasonably well says a lot.
