So are they honest about voting percentages? For example, if Honey got the lowest amount of votes, would she go, or would they manipulate the figures (or outright lie) to keep her in for another week?

They don't have to . Viewers votes only place them from first to last with the bottom two going to judge's decision. The sing-off is a joke because it rarely comes down to best performance.

I mostly agree - I'm not laughing with/at her either. Why does the X Factor (& BGT) still do this - why does it persist in parading people who are not only deluded but, in some cases, clearly mentally ill? (It was stated recently that this never happens in the foreign versions of the show, just ours - although I don't know how accurate that actually is).

When I say 'parading', I mean just that - parading unfortunate damaged individuals for us all to laugh and point at. In Victorian times, there was a place with a viewing gallery, where you could pay for the privilege of looking down on the antics of the people below (who were goaded with sticks if they weren't 'antic' enough). That was 100 years ago, and that place was called Bedlam....Sharon (yes, you!).

We like to think we've come a long way since then - but really, is this so different from that form of 'entertainment' (because that's how it was viewed)? Even today the stigma of mental illness still lurks amongst us, engendering discrimination and negative attitudes - behaviour like this isn't really helping (in fact Cowell & co. could be making things a lot worse by actively encouraging viewers to ridicule and victimise the viulnerable?)...

BIB - no, I don't agree with that, I believe she's deadly serious (and could well be shattered by all this detrimental exposure - this peculiar little world she's built around herself could well be what's giving her life a morsel of stability).

The two don't rule each other out. I believe she has created this spoof character. It's such a send up/cliche of the genre - how can it be otherwise?
It's the X Factor equivalent of Ali G but not as clever!
What gets me is that a good act has been binned to put this character through.

Perhaps we should apply this old saying:

If it looks like duck,
Sounds like a duck,
Walks like a duck.

Then it is most likely - a duck!
(replace duck with spoof act)

It says a lot about some people intelligence that they haven't made the connection.

I saw this article a week ago my first thought was, damn! with a nose like that I would wear shades and a hat to detract attention.

She is just a desperado looking for five minutes in the lime light.

She is definitely a spoof act, there is no way that she could actually be real!

Oh I hope she's a spoof - it would be great if she came on one week in a ballgown affair and belted out an opera number.

Brilliant article, I love how it attacks people craving "individuality" for pretending to like her act.
