I couldn't hear the announcer on my TV until I switched the sound mode from Speech to Normal or User (can't remember which). Once I'd switched the mode, I also had to turn down the volume massively.
It's a relief as I was starting to think that I was going deaf. Instead I just had the wrong sound setting for most TV programmes (I must have changed it for the latest mumbling drama & forgot to change it back again).
