Just one week in, and the Daily Star's front page headlines said that "Strictly was Fixed in Daisy's favour......" Really? Can these rags not find something newsworthy to print?

I'd certainly say there was probably some leniency, due to her recent bereavement - but give the girl some credit! It was a decent waltz.
Yes it was a nice waltz and she's a pretty girl, but was it really worth so many more marks than Naga's? No.
To be fair, there seemed to be a lot of overmarking going on in the second show especially, not just for Daisy. Lovely waltz though, it was my favourite dance on Saturday.

I think two or three of the Friday night people suffered from under marking when you look at the range of marks. And on Strictly entertainment value isn't always recognised in the scores.

Thats perhaps because entertainment value is so subjective. I still think the dance that entertained me most was John Sergent's Paso. It makes me laugh just thinking about him dragging Kristina across the floor, with his hand on his lapel and the expression of a solemn teddy bear. But no way would I say it deserves a high mark.
I genuinely thought Daisy's waltz was absolutely delightful. Very classical and romantic. I thought she acted it really well and danced exceptionally well for only three weeks of training. She was streets ahead of Naga so did deserve better marks. No conspiracy theory there.

I liked her waltz but Len giving a 9 in the first show was ridiculous . If they're going to b dishing out 9's so early it ruins the show for further down the line when you hope the celebs show improvement .

Calling it a "conspiracy theory" is giving it too much credit. People put effort into coming up with conspiracy theories. This is two Hollyoaks fans having a bitch on twitter that their wobbie didn't get high enough scores that has somehow been inflated into an entire newspaper story.

Totally agree. Naga was promising, and so don't want to put her down, but Daisy's movement across the floor was much better.

Oh yeah, I agree all the markings were too high. Was only talking in relative terms here. ie. Daisy justified her placing.

As a dancer Ann, I would be interested to see what you would have scored their dance.
Well it is difficult because there is no such thing as a perfect 10 in reality. So all you can do is calibrate your marks to allow people to develop (to get a 10 in week 7 for example). Also there is a high degree of subjectivity and I certainly wouldn't class myself as anywhere near an expert in evaluating other people's dances. I see that James on Twitter thought Danny was the best. Brendan seemed to think Ore was the best. Neil Jones who is an expert in Latin especially the jive (a world champion no less) thought that Louise's jive was the best he'd ever seen on strictly technically.
I'd make 7 my highest mark in week 1.

Yes, and probably Danny.
Everyone else lower though, although in retrospect it seems that might not have been fair to Louise having heard Neil's comments on her, since he really knows what he is talking about.
But then there is an argument for giving high marks and encouraging everyone.
Edit: And then there is Ore who did look good when I rewatched him. I honestly don't know now. Note though that I asked my dance teacher which ballroom he would rather do in week 1 if a pro and he said tango because there is no sway or rise and fall. Most people think waltz is easier, but it's not.
