Roku 4 question

I have just ordered one for my friend and I've just looked at some reviews on Amazon and they claim it runs at 720p rather then 1080p. Is this true? Do any members own the box? What do you think of it? He mainly ordered it as he was disappointed with the Now TV Smart Box. I did warn him though about the now TV box not having anywhere near as many apps as roku & he's owned a roku 2 before.

The Roku 4 is a 4k box so not sure what the 720p is all about.

I suspect there is an element of "operator error" involved in setting the thing up.

**Amazon**

What is even worse is that it won't even connect at Full HDTV definition of 1080p. Instead, it will only connect at a Standard HDTV 720p feed. This is on my 4K HDTV 2160p television.

Bottom line is that I have spent £179.99 (!!!!) on a crappy product that delivers a Standard HD definition feed (not even a Full one) to my UHD TV which has TWICE the capability of Full HD and more than three times the quality of feed that it is delivering.

Saw that too. Not exactly sure what is going on there. I suspect it is more a case of the Roku not being set up properly. A really cheap and nasty HDMI cable could also be to blame if it mangled signals at the kind of bitrate needed for 1080p and above. That could cause the box to drop back to 720.

Not sure if the boxes on Amazon are UK or US spec. If they are US spec then it might be the frame rate difference. Though you would have thought a decent telly could cope with US frame rates OK.

And there is also the distinct possibility that the person concerned had his box set to feed the source unmodified to the TV and (s)he was watching a 720p stream!

I tried my friends now tv smart box tonight seeing that its based on the roku 4 and that too displays at 720p well at least the home screen does but i didnt test it any further as he wanted me to reset it to factory settings before selling it on.

Well he got the roku 4 last week and I'm not impressed. Everything that he used the roku 2 for he can do on this. He may as well of stuck with roku 2. Also the machine makes a slight humming noise? I gather there's no hard drive in it? I thought there would of been a live TV option like on the new now TV smart box.
