It's poor writing either way. Felt like they thought they were being clever and wrote that after reading our messages saying "Genius Girl and Soldier Boy have only know each other for 30 minutes and now they're getting married!" etc. All they needed was a caption in the corner at the start of every episode showing a different day to give the allusion of larger amounts of time passing. Then no-one would've given the relationships a second thought (it's hardly the worst thing about them - Crazy Amish boy, Im talking to you!)

I also don't get the point of them going home again either, hadn't they already gotten an inkling about the harbingers before then? Or was that after they'd gotten home?

As for the "here's a gun for ya" wifey. I was expecting to here a second gunshot cos, seriously, what did the family think the lady was going to do next. Why'd they just leave here, weren't they neighbors ?”

Agree on both points. The only reason to go home is to salvage stuff then get on the move again. No point even thinking about staying there as they'd only be targeted by monsters or raided by other people. And I too was wondering what they expected that poor woman to do after 'taking care' of her husband.

They say that the script writing profession is extremely hard to break into because of all the established talent. Really?!!

Sometimes it feels like they're not even trying. Now, I can understand why budgetary reason could force them to have their characters make stupid decisions [insert prime example]. But when they're needlessly stupid like [insert examples 1 thru 17 from the show] I just give the screen my puzzled look and "whaaaaaaaaaaat" ? [insert Pulitzer worthy paragraph here to make this an awesome post]

QED.

This - the opportunity for valuable moments of excessive sentimentality were missed there, and if a house is merely half-burnt and not a smoking crater then you go in and salvage the scorched half-melted picture that includes one or more friends/family that you had to brutally dispatch when they went nuts.
And there's no way that Karen did not have a basement full of pork'n'beans and MREs.

Plus as it's a farm (or at least on a farm) some quality non-blunt defensive instruments might be around to collect too, unless the hordes of ravaging loons stripped out everything while passing through, assuming it was no longer raining cats and dogs or hailing taxis.

They didn't go in the house because the budget only stretched to a static CG effects shot rather than dressing wrecked interiors.

Not my fault, that joke is 100 years older than me, I merely emulate my elders
On the other hand there's no denying it was properly story-appropriate.

I would dispute this, just make sure the house is properly insured and then conveniently burnt down by accident in timee for that scene and the budget problem goes away all on its own, no CG effects required.

If the writer's plan was always that they would return to their house at some point couldn't they just have filmed those scenes at the same time as they filmed the interiors for the first episode??

The logic would certainly fit, and lots of shows record main scenes and flashbacks etc at the same time to save on scenery and/or sound stage costs, but you made an utterly fundamental error in your hypothesis, and that was to use the word 'plan'

Actually my real question is how they managed to get home before they ran out of pot noodles unless that RV is like a tardis or enough crazies had eaten each other or just vanished and there were still plenty in the shops. Unless that's why the 'weird speed of time' was brought up? They took some with them when they left, re-stocked at the army base, and again at band camp, and I think that was it?

But they would've had to redress the sets and the real location (which presumably they couldn't trash) whereas the static shot from a distance was just a simple bit of CG and much less costly but with the same result. They only went back to justify roaming about for the rest of the season.

They've spunked the budget on those mangy dragons so any corner they can cut, they cut!!

Even the one-line synopsis is lunacy:

The Copelands cross paths with a biker gang led by Karen's father.

TBH my heart sank when I saw what the guide said - there's too much potential for crowbarring in those requisite schmaltzy family moments and some really stupid decisions to go with that.

I'm hoping they don't try and out-mad-max Mad Max, as it were - it's not been that long since all hell broke loose (and seems to be in hiding) but presumably they still have a few jerry-cans and haven't yet laid siege to the local refinery...
Or if they do go down that path, they pull out all the stops.

Ugh, that wasn't even "so bad, it's funny" levels of crap, like normal. It was just boring shite. Moron son pretends to be tough, genius girl cant tell the difference between booze and mixers. Generic doppelganger "who should we shoot?" fight we've seen a billion times and dad goes on drug fuelled spirit walk.

Seriously where the **** is this show even going.

Far far away to a place we can't even imagine and probably don't want to go...

But what was all that adept stuff about? Is the father going to become a shaman?

Maybe - though coughing blood presumably means he's infected? Unless the 'adept' thing means he is going to have some non-drug-fuelled enlightenment that makes him immune.

But now we know that when Karen does that standoff thing it's always going to be someone she knows. Apart from that, it was almost a good save as far as the sentimentality was concerned. Also reassuring (if a little predictable) that paradise has a pile of bodies stuffed in a cupboard somewhere.

I imagine Karen pulls out her gun if hubby gets breakfast wrong or perhaps leaves the toilet seat up. A character reduced to a pair of sunglasses and a pistol - Heche (& hubby) must need to pay some big bills fast.

Was a writer/director for last night's ep - Shitpeddler on two fronts. Only a few eps left now and they surely have to go bat-shit mental in the last episode as there's no way this garbage can be renewed for another season. I reckon they should have God and/or Jesus appearing - Maybe Satan too. Why not?

Sacrilege
But also add a snide remark about 'taste for disaster' given some people's opinion of the show

Wot no apocalypse cancelled due to New Year celebrations, presumably because so many of them will also have 'aftermath'...

I don't know what the viewing figures have been like, but I would not be surprised to find that one week the programme just doesn't appear.

I don't expect that even if all episodes are shown that we will know what it was all about. I'm just enjoying the ride (sort of) but am finding the jokes too subtle (it is supposed to be a comedy isn't it?).

It's just that no-one seemed to have given it much mind; I suppose it's only a little thing...
